Three: BWM, Victory (203781 Pte F D Brown S Lan R), Territorial War Medal (3115 Pte F D Brown D of Lanc O.Y.), VF, together with an HM silver (B’ham 1914) cigarette case, 4” x 3” the front bearing an enamelled Union flag, French Tricoleur, Belgian and Russian flags in the corners and engraved “ Fraternal Greeting to our Brother Trooper F D Brown Duke of Lancaster’s Own Yeomanry, who is now serving with the colours, from the Brethren of the Derby Lodge 1055...Christmas 1914” and a companion lighter, same hallmarks, the front enamelled with the Union flag over 2 crossed tricoleurs, the reverse inscribed “Derby Lodge 1055 Greeting to our Brother F D Brown Duke of Lancaster’s Own Yeomanry attached to Military Mounted Police 66th Division. EVEREST EXPEDITION 1953: A hardback edition of The Ascent of Everest by John Hunt, First Edition published by Hodder and Stoughton, London, 1953, featuring two 12mo signed pieces neatly laid down to the front free endpaper and bearing the signatures of eleven members of the Mount Everest Expedition of 1953 including Edmund Hillary, Tenzing Norgay, Alfred Gregory, Michael Ward, Tom Stobart, Michael Westmacott, George Lowe, Griffith Pugh, Charles Wylie, George Band and one other. All have signed in fountain pen inks with their names alone. With an ownership signature, address and inscription opposite dated 28th December 1953. Lacking the dust jacket and with some wear and staining to the blue cloth boards. Together with three pieces of related printed ephemera including two invitations, one to a ceremony for the presentation of a special medal by the President of India to Hunt, Hillary and Norgay, 29th June 1953, and an English translation of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad's speech made on the same occasion. OLAV V: (1903-1991) King of Norway 1957-91. Small series of three A.Ls.S., Olav R, four pages (total), 8vo, Oslo and London, 11th November 1967 - 23rd October 1976, each to Michael Dormer. In the first letter the King regrets that he won't be able to meet his correspondent, explaining that he has been kept busy with yachting meetings, remarking 'Even the Russian played the game, he is new and an active and successful helmsman who won the gold medal in "Stars" in Naples in 1960, so for a change we had yachtsmen from the USSR....', in the second letter confirming an appointment at a Club in Charles Street, although explaining that he will have some shopping to attend to on his final morning in London, and in the third letter confirming a luncheon engagement. One of the letters is accompanied by the original envelope hand addressed by King Olav. VG, 3
