Queen Victoria Indian Mutiny medal, awarded to Gunner James Gibson, F Troop, Royal Horse Artillery, with Lucknow clasp, with photocopy of service.Notes: enlisted for the Royal Artillery on 10th Cotober 1854, aged 24, at Hulme, Manchester and attested for the Regiment on the following day. Served 5th Battalion Heacy Artillery as Gunner and Driver ariving at Bengal in November 1857. He is recoreded as having died at Lucknow on 31st May 1858.

Victorian New Zealand medal, awarded to Martin Swain, Boy 1st Class, H.M.S. Eclipse, 1865; with copies of papers. Notes: Swain was born in Dublin on 8th February 1846. He joined the Navy at 15 years old and at 18 he signed for a 10 year engagement. Joined 25th May 1861 on Ajax until 30th April 1863, Boy 2nd Class; Miranda until 31st August 1865, Boy 1st Class. Eclipse , Falcon, Caledonia, Gaol until 30th September 1870 as Ordinary Seaman. Caledonia, Gaol again and Favourite until discharge 1st October 1870. The above medal covered both Maori wars and were for members of crews who landed and engaged with the enemy. The Eclipse was a wooden screw Sloop of 700 tons and she shelled enemy positions in 21st September 1865.

Medals mounted for wear. Private Ferris previously served with the 3rd London regiment. He enlisted on 21st January 1918 and was discharged 10th January 1919. He was awarded the silver war badge. Imperial Service Medal was awarded in the London Gazette 22nd January 1960 for “Overseer London Postal Region”.

Accompanied by three single Allied Victory medals awarded to “35009 PTE J GOOSEY YORK & LANC R”, “426062 PTE T A E PEARSON 10-LOND R” and “18149 PTE A T SMITH ESSEX R”. Medals also accompanied by a small bronze Royal Review medal. Private Alford served in France from 30th May 1917 until 11th January 1919.

(3 items) Frank Claude Nicol served as 1055 Sgt 14th London regiment, commissioned into the 90th Machine Gun Company and later served as a Captain with the 10th London Regiment. He is entitled to a 1914 star trio.

Rare WW1 British War Medal Camel Corps Australian Imperial Forces, awarded to “2407 PTE J MC LAUGHLIN CML CPS A.I.F”. Remains in good condition. Private Jeremiah McLaughlin enlisted in the Australian Imperial Forces at Liverpool, New South Wales on 14th February 1916. He served with the 14th Company, 3rd Battalion Camel Corps, later transferring to the 15th Light Horse Regiment. He served overseas in Egypt, Palestine and Syria. He was discharged on 13th October 1919.

(2 items) Lance Corporal Hinds served in France and Belgium during WW1. Territorial Efficiency Medal was granted in November 1921. Only 33 Territorial Efficiency medals awarded to the regiment.

Very Scarce Pair of Luftschutz Photograph Albums / Research Files, the first is a large leverarch file entitled ‘Luftschutzdienst, Deutscher Luftschutzverband, Reichsluftschutzbund, Polizei. Regierung.’ and covers the history of the Luftschutz in the area east of Berlin which is bounded by the towns of Frankfurt on Oder, Kustrin, Furstenwalde and Lebus. It comprises copious RLSB original documents, annotated photos clearly showing RLB uniforms, special equipment, parades, etc., official RLSB passes, covering the period 1932-1942. The wartime photos show bomb damage, gruesome ones of dead bodies, unexploded bombs, etc.. 183 photos. Also includes his original Luftschutz Medal citation. The second file is a self-prepared manual on English and Russian bombs, showing cross-sections of them and photos of their explosive affects, all compiled by Hans Schertz, the RLSB Fuhrer of the Frankfurt/Oder unit, as the first file. 59 photos. Excellent unpublished reference material for anyone studying bombs, Air Defence, Allied Bombing in WW2. Good condition.

WW2 German Artillery Regiment Wehrpass, issued to George Schmidt who served in various Artillery regiments from 1940, the last noted unit being 4 / A.R 198 which he joined in December 1944. The book is well filled out with many entries. The award of the Eastern Front medal is noted. Civilian picture to the inside page of the wehrpass. Accompanied by a 1941 “Badischer Soldaten-Kalender” with Wilrich style image of a German Infantry soldier to the front cover; packet of WW2 period German cigarettes and a 1908 German bible with a quantity of memorial (death) cards inside from the Third Reich era and post-war.

Medal has been polished but still generally good condition. Lance Corporal Brockwell first served in France from 18th March 1915. The award of the Military Medal appeared in the London Gazette 21st December 1916 for service in France.

WW2 Royal Air Force Service Dress Uniform Attributed to Pathfinder Squadron Leader The Hon Brian Grimston DFC, Killed in Action 4th April 1943 Serving with 156 Squadron, four pocket officers service dress tunic with padded embroidered kings crown RAF pilots wing above Distinguished Flying Cross medal ribbon and gilt metal pathfinders badge. To the cuffs is rank insignia for Squadron Leader. Brass kings crown RAF buttons to the front and pockets. Interior pocket of the tunic has original tailors label with inked name, “Hon B Grimston” and dated 1940. Accompanied by matching service dress trousers. The set shows service wear and has some damage to the interior lining by the armpit. Son of James Walter Grimston fourth Earl of Verulam. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross on 5th January 1943, the citation was as follows, “Squadron Leader the Honourable Brian Grimston (84667) Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, No 156 Squadron. Squadron Leader Grimston captain of an aircraft engaged in operations against Turin on the night of 11th December 1942. Throughout the greater part of the outward flight, he was forced to fly blind, owing to extremely adverse weather. Only by exercise of the greatest coolness and tenacity was this officer able to surmount the difficulties of the Alpine crossing, reach the target and complete his mission. On the return flight, the state of the weather exacted the most superlative airmanship and navigational skill. Squadron Leader Grimston finally made a successful landing in this country. In the course of numerous operational sorties, this officer has evinced superb skill and exceptional courage.” On the 4th April 1943 he was sent on a mission to Kiel, as part of a force of 10 pathfinder aircraft from 156 squadron, his and another aircraft failed to return. He was lost with all of his crew. His brother was also killed in WW2 serving with the RAF.

Rare WW2 D-Day Seaborne Royal Observer Corps Battle Dress Uniform Set, scarce untouched example in blue grey wool with printed SEABORNE shoulder titles to both arms. White metal tunic buttons with woven Royal Observer Corps breast badge above medal ribbons for France & Germany star, Defence medal and 1939-45 war medal. To each arm is printed rank insignia for Chief Observer. Interior of the tunic has 1942 dated size label. Accompanied by the matching 1942 dated battle dress trousers. Set remains in very good overall condition. The seaborne titles were worn by members of the Royal Observer Corps who accompanied the invasion fleet for operation overlord (D-Day).

Elizabeth II Officers General Service Medal (1918-61) Royal Horse Guards, with single clasp Cyprus, awarded to “CAPT THE HON B C WILSON R.H.G”. The medal remains in good condition. Ben Charles Wilson 4th Baron Nunburnholme was born on 16 July 1928, son of the 3rd Baron and Lady Mary Thynne, youngest daughter of the 5th Marquess of Bath, K.G., P.C., C.B. He was educated at Eton and joined the Royal Horse Guards in May 1949 and served with the regiment in Cyprus 1956-59. He retired in 1969 and succeeded to the title on the death of his father in 1974.

Royal Air Force Tunic and Peaked Cap of Flight Officer S Falla CBE DSO, Awarded the Distinguished Service Order for Command of Special Forces Flight During Operation Granby (Iraq) 1991, 1972 pattern RAF officers short tunic with zip front and zip slash breast pockets. EIIR padded pilots wing above medal ribbons for the DSO, General Service Medal (1962) and South Atlantic (Falklands) campaign medal with rosette. Interior with the original label which is inked “FALLA”. Accompanied by his original officers peaked service cap with EIIR officers cap badge on black mohair band. Cap is in well worn condition, tunic appears to be very good condition. (2 items) Simon Falla joined the RAF in 1979 and was selected for Helicopter training in 1980. In 1981 he joined the newly formed Chinook force with No18(B) Squadron RAF. He sailed with the task force sent to the Falkland Islands in 1982, flying operational sorties during the conflict. In 1983 he joined No 7 Squadron RAF Chinook Special Forces Flight, flying operationally over Lebanon. He was appointed Squadron Leader and deputy commander of No 7 Squadron in 1989. In 1990 he assumed command of Special Forces Flight and led it in Operation Granby over Iraq in 1991, he was awarded the Distinguished Service Order for this period. He rose to the rank of Air Commodore, and was deputy commander and chief of Staff Joint Helicopter Command. This set was acquired directly from Falla by the author of “The Falklands War Then and Now” Gordon Ramsay.

Large and Impressive Oil on Canvas Painting of Lieutenant Colonel William Pearce 44th (East Essex) Regiment of Foot, Was Wounded at the Battle of Fuentes De Onoro and Captured a French Imperial Eagle at the Battle of Salamanca on 22nd July 1812, the half length portrait, painted in 1837, shows Lieutenant Colonel William Pearce in uniform of the 60th Kings Royal Rifle Corps. He can clearly be seen wearing the Royal Guelphic Order (Knight of Hanover) and his Military General Service medal with three bars. To the lower right hand corner “Aetat 37”. Housed in a period gilt decorated frame. Measures 89 x 101 ½ cms. Painting has been professionally re-backed for preservation. The book Wellington’s Men Remembered gives the following details, “Pearce William, Captain 60th (Royal American) Regiment of Foot. Box tomb in railed enclosure: St Cattwg’s Churchyard, Llanspyddid, Brecon, Wales. Ensign 44th Regiment 31 Dec 1807, Lt 21 Sep 1810, Capt 60th Foot 15 Aug 1813, Major 30 Aug 1825, Lt Col (unattatched) 29 Aug 1826… Served in the Peninsula War from Jan 1811 - Feb 1813. Present at Sabugal, Fuentes d’Onoro (wounded), Badajoz, Salamanca, Burgos and the Retreat from Burgos (present at Villa Muriel). While serving with the 44th Foot at Salamanca, he saw a French officer trying to hide a Eagle of the 62nd French Regiment of Line under his great coat. Pearce was nearly shot by another French soldier as he tried to take the Eagle. One of Pearce’s men saw this and shot the Frenchman enabling Pearce to capture the Eagle. MGS medal for Fuentes d’Onoro, Badjoz and Salamanca. KH Justice of the Peace. Half pay with the rank of Lt Colonel 29 Aug 1826.” The French Imperial Eagle captured by Lieutenant Pearce is still held by the regiment and is displayed at the Essex Regimental museum in Chelmsford.

Great War King’s African Rifles Distinguished Conduct Medal Awarded for Gallantry in Portuguese East Africa, awarded to “2116 CPL TANI 1 / 2 K.A.R”. Medal is heavily polished. Citation for the award is as follow, “For period 1/12/17 – 31st July 1918. For conspicuous gallantry on 21/5/1918. This NCO, with three men, did excellent service in working on the left flank of the company forming the advance guard, and when the flank was attacked, stayed under heavy fire until the line was established.”

Medals generally all in good condition. Private Raleigh Soundy served on the Gallipoli Peninsular from 10th August 1915. Sapper Donald Soundy served with the Royal Engineers Railway Service.
