Coldstream Guards Boer War Queen's South Africa Medal. Awarded to '7306 SEJT G.J. WARD CLDSTM GDS'. Bearing the clasps 'Belmont', 'Modder River', 'Paardeberg', Driefontein'. Sergeant Gordon John Ward enlisted into the Coldstream Guards on the 1st December 1887. He served in South Africa from the 21st October 1899 until 23rd May 1900. He was discharged after 15 years service on the 27th November 1900. Clasp entitlement is confirmed he is not entitled to the King's South Africa Medal.

Medals loose please note initials as listed. Corporal Frank Herbert Hibbs enlisted in May 1890. He served in India from November 1891 until 1898. After a short time in the UK he was posted to South Africa on the 20th February 1900 and returned to the UK on the 31st July 1900. He was discharged in July 1902.

The announcement of the award of the Distinguished Conduct Medal appeared in the London Gazette on the 14th November 1916. 'For conspicuous gallantry in action. He carried messages under very heavy fire, displaying great courage and determination. Later he carried ammunition to the front line.' Sergeant Henry James Portwain DCM landed in France with the 1st Bn on the 26th September 1914 and is entitled to the clasp to the 1914 Star.

Colonel Home took his Company through the orchard and a 1.30 pm he counter attacked and broke through to Hougoumont. The farm now on fire Wellington despatched a messenger with order s to hold and asked if he understood the order. Colonial Holme replied 'I do and you can tell the Duke from me that unless we are attacked more vigourously than we have been hitherto, we shall maintain the position without difficulty.'Colour Sergeant James Badderly was born in Nottinghamshire and volunteered into the Third Foot Guards in 1805. He came to the end of his first term after twenty years in 1825 and was reengaged He received his final discharge in 1846 and appears to have been made a permeant Chelsea Pensioner. His death was reported in 1848

KEKEWICH'. Retains original ribbon and pin. He is noted in the Eton College Chronicle September 1918 as holding the rank of Cadet Captain.
Border Regiment Commanding Officer's Double Issue of the India General Service Medal 1895. This rare double issue was awarded to Lieutenant Colonel Henry Montagu Shallett O'Brien whilst serving with the 2nd Battalion, he had the honour of commanding the 1st Bn in 1912.Comprising: Two examples of the India General Service Medal, clasp 'Waziristan 1894-5', 'CAPT H.M.S. O'BRIEN 2ND BN BORDER REGT'. Second example similar named. Lieutenant Colonel Henry Montagu Shallett O'Brien was appointed a Lieutenant in the Border Regiment on the 10th May 1882, being promoted Captain in December 1891. He served with the 2nd Battalion during the Waziristan Field Force expedition of 1894-1895. He appears to have returned to the United Kingdom and saw no service in South Africa. In 1911 with the rank of Major he was once again serving in India with the 1st Bn and is confirmed on the 1911 Delhi Durbar Roll. The following year 1912 he took command of the Battalion. No record can be found by Bosleys to entitlement of Great War Medals.

Medals mounted as worn. Major Andrew Small a native of Glasgow landed in France with the 5th Bn Scottish Rifles on the 5th November 1914. He was at one time attached to the Gold Coast Rifles, before receiving a commission in the Highland Light Infantry on the 25th November 1915. Surviving the war he was entered into the Reserve of Officer's and at the outbreak of WW2 was promoted to Acting Major with the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders.

Stoker 1st Class Robert John George King was serving onboard the Battlecruiser HMS Indefatigable at the Battle of Jutland. Indefatigable was hit by shells to the stern resulting in her taking in water and beginning to sink, she was hit again and her magazines blew of the 1,019 crew only two would survive.Flight Sergeant Samuel King joined the RAF and volunteered for aircrew. He joined 461 (RAAF) Squadron flying the Short Sunderland Flying Boat out of Pembroke Docks. He was lost on operations on the 1st September 1942

WW1 Warwickshire Yeomanry / Imperial Camel Corps. Awarded to '2359 PTE R.G. CLARKE WARWICK YEO'. Comprising: 1914/15 Star, 'PTE WARWICK YEO', British War Medal, Victory Medal, 'PTE WARWICK YEO'. ... Accompanied by a selection of original paperwork, including discharge certificates, photographs mounted on a camel, etc. Private Reginald George Clarke was born in 1892 and enlisted into the Warwickshire Yeomanry on the 14th September 1914. He landed in Egypt on the 20th April 1915. They remained here until despatched to Gallipoli and they landed at Suvla Bay on 18 August and saw action at the Battle of Scimitar Hill. Returning Egypt Private Clake transferred to the 2nd Bn Imperial Camel Corps. This is confirmed on a Signalling Course Certificate dated 31st August 1918 and the two accompanying photographs with the lot. He was discharged on the 5th May 1919. He later worked as a Piano Tuner and died in 1974
WW2 RAF Distinguished Flying Cross Winner's Log Books & Medal Group. This grouping was awarded to Squadron Leader John Harrison-Broadley DFC, who flew operations during the Battle of France with 21 Squadron, would go on to win the DFC and be taken POW following anti shipping strikes in the Mediterranean and in the post war years would complete some 48 operational flights tracking nuclear fall out clouds during the British 'A' Bomb tests of 1956. Comprising: Medal Group: 1939/45 Star, Aircrew Europe Star, Africa Star, Defence Medal, War Medal, MID Oak Leaf. The group is mounted as worn. PLEASE NOTE DFC not present. ... Corresponding group of miniature medals including the DFC ... 2 x RAF Pilots Log Books, recording flights from the 30th December 1938 until 2nd May 1961 ... Quantity of original Ephemera ... Photographs ... Newspaper cutting etc. Squadron Leader John Harrison-Broadley DFC., MID. was a pre war regular Officer and started Pilot training on the 30th December 1938. Qualifying as a Pilot on the day war broke out he was serving at Number 10 Flying training School. In October he was posted to 90 Squadron operating the Bristol Blenheim light bomber. After further training in April 1940 he was posted to 21 Squadron and after the 'Balloon went up' on the 10th May found himself on bombing operations on German transport, troops etc in France. On the 27th May his log records 'Destroy the NAZI HQ at Bel' At this time the log also records 'Attacked by 12 ME109's two ME109 shot down by Obs & AG'. For his operations over France he was awarded a MID on the 6th October 1940. Following the fall of France the Squadron took part in anti shipping strikes. In May 1941 he was posted to 82 Squadron still operating the Bristol Blenheim, and was posted to Malta. On the 22nd June 1941 he was leading a formation on a strike, when they encounted a heavily defended convoy near Lampedusa. 'HB' lead the attack at low level and dropped his bombs on a ship as he flew up between its masts, his engine was hit and his wing hit the ships mast, the aircraft damaged it staggered on before hitting the sea. For this attack Squadron Leader Harrison-Broadley was awarded the DFC. With his aircraft sinking he and his crew scrambled into the dingy and five hours later were picked up by an Italian ship and taken POW. (a letter accompanies the lot giving details of the raid and time as a POW). Released as a POW he returned to the UK on the 9th May 1945. He resigned his commission on the 13th January 1946, but rejoined the RAF on the 31st November 1950 at RAF Biggin Hill. He restarted flying on the 20th December 1950 at No. 1 Flying Training School. In 1953 he qualified to fly the Avro Lincoln bomber serving with 83 Squadron. completing his tour with 83 Squadron on the 8th February 1956 he was posted to 'Varsity Squadron' this is how the Squadron is recorded in 'HB's' logbook. This Squadron was tasked with the monitoring the A-Bomb Tests in Western Australia during 1956. An accompanying newspaper cutting states that 'H.B' flew 48 operations to monitor the effects of Nuclear blasts on occasions flying through the clouds. The log records these flights as Radiological Survey. His last flight is recorded in a Vickers Varsity on the 2nd May 1961. Ship's Corporal 1st Class Charles Henry Boone was born in 1846 and enlisted into the Royal Navy in 1864 as a Painter 1st Class. He was promoted to the rank of Ship's Corporal in 1876 and is confirmed as serving onboard HMS Tenedos an Eclipse class screw sloop. He was discharged to pension 1884.

The announcement of the Military Cross appeared in the London Gazette on the 8th February 1945.The Recommendation for the award of the Military Cross was raised on the 12th May 1944 States:.'Ever since first going into action with his Battery in the Arakan in January 1944 Capt. Janson has been conspicuous for his aggressive determination to kill the enemy. This quality had full scope both in the box at Ngakyedauk in February and again in Kohima in April, on both occasions the garrisons were at the closest possible quarters with the enemy. Capt Janson quickly proved himself a master not only of the local defence but of local offence. His grenade throwing won him the admiration of the Infantry. His demeanour under heavy fire is extremely calm and purposeful. his courage is exemplary. His ability to organise and inspire his men in battle has cost the enemy dearly and helped to beat off many attacks.'
