A POIGNANT WWII JAPANSE PRISONER OF WAR CASUALTY GROUP TO LANCE - BOMBARDIER A THOMPSON 1939/45 Star; Pacific Star and War Medal. With box of issue addressed to Mrs A Thompson 1 Trimdon Street, Millfield, Sunderland, County Durham. With original Memorial Scroll, and RA Cap badge. and a number of original photographs. Sadly, condolence slip is missing, but it comes with original Memorial Scroll Swing mounted on card for display. Arthur Thompson was born in Millfield, Sunderland. He served as a Lance Bombardier in the 242 Bty., 48 Lt. A.A. Regt of the Royal Artillery. he was captured by the Japanese on Batavia, Java. He sadly died while still a prisoner of Colitis and is remembered on the Singapore War memorial.

ZULU MEDAL 1879 BAR TO LIEUT W H VERNON BAKERS HORSE William Henry Vernon. With original transmittal letter for the medal. Medal and bar are confirmed on the roll. The medal is renamed and engraved in a non-official style - Lieut W H Vernon Bakers Horse. With daughters 1916 dated on war service badge and accompanying letter. Badge number 246301. Letter to Miss D Vernon (badge number in letter 246337). There were 216 medals awarded to Bakers Horse, 202 with the 1879 bar. (Renamed) Condition = NEF
KHEDIVES SUDAN WITH KHARTOUM BAR TO 4605 PTE H TUFF 5TH FUSERS Named to 4605 Pte H Tuff 5th Fusers Condition GVF Henry tuff was born in Monkwearmouth, Sunderland. He attested aged 18, on 20th April 1895, joining the 1st Bn Northumberland Fusiliers. He had previously served in the 3rd Volunteer Bn of the Durham Light Infantry while working as a Labour. During his military service, Tuff earned the Queen Sudan Medal, Khedives Sudan Medal, QSA and KSA for his service during the Boer War. Tuff didn't take well to military life and was tried by district court-martial on several occasions for poor behaviour before discharged in 1907. Upon the outbreak of the Great War, he attested once again, joining the Durham Light Infantry on 12th August 1914, he deserted in March 1915 but re-joined in July. His behaviour had not mellowed with age, and he was in trouble again numerous times. He had a spell in the Labour Corps and the Royal Air force before finally being discharged in mid-1918 due to no longer being physically fit. However, that wasn't the end of his military career, he re-joined the Labour Corps on the 4th June 1919 and served for just under a year.
A GREAT WAR NAVAL MSM GROUP TO LIEUTENANT H J NORTHEY Military OBE; GV Silver Hallmarks. 1914/15 Star 270703 H J Northey CERA2 RN British War Medal - Art Eng H J Northey RN (I feel this medal is officially renamed in a poor fashion) Victory Medal - Art Eng H J Northey RN Defence Medal War Medal GV MSM 270703 H J Northey CERA 2Cl “Griffon 1918†George V LSGC 270703 H J Northey CERA HMS Leander. Condition GVF Henry John Northey was born in Bexhill, Sussex on 3rd October 1880. He joined the Royal Navy on 2nd June 1902, signing on for 12 years. In civilian life, he had worked as an 'Engine Smith'. Northey was awarded the Long Service Good Conduct Medal in 1917. He was Mentioned in Despatches twice, 25.5.1917 and 1.10.1918, awarded the Meritorious Service Medal on 14th February 1919, ' For Services in Cruisers Employed on Escort, Convoy, and Patrol Duties during 1917 and 1918, while serving on 'HMS Griffon'. He had been promoted to Lieutenant on 3rd October 1918 and was awarded the OBE on 1st January 1919. The award was given for his part in repairing the Minesweeper 'HMS Tedworth', which had been damaged on 26th December 1918. Placed on the retired list on 1st May 1920, he was called up again on 1st September 1939 and served at home for the duration of the Second World War. Northey passed away in Cornwall in 1957.
A GREAT WAR MILITARY CROSS GROUP TO LIEUT DUNKLEY ROYAL ENGINEERS MC GV contemporarily engraved to reverse Lieut C H Dunkley RE Pair Lieut C H Dunkley (MID leaf) Defence Medal War Medal. Swing mounted as worn. Condition GVF. Charles Henry Dunkley was born in St Mary"s Vicarage, Borewood, Wolverhampton, Staffordshire in 1890. He attested on 1st December 1914, joining the 9th Bn of the Kings Own Royal Lancaster Regiment. He had previously served with the 4th Bn between 1st April 1903 and 31st March 1913. He was commissioned as Second Lieutenant on 23rd July 1915 into the Royal Engineers. Promoted to Lieutenant on 1st July 1917, he ended the war as a Captain. For his services during the Great War, he was Mentioned in Despatches 11th December 1917 (London Gazette) and was awarded a Military Cross in the 1918 New Year Honour lists. In the immediate post-war years, he served in Ireland. During the Second World War, he was commissioned as a Major (TA) in the South Staffordshire Regiment. Dunkley passed away in 1970. Discharged due to wounds on the 4th of September 1917. Correctly impressed. A POIGNANT D-DAY +4 CASUALTY GROUP TO PTE ALFRED BROWN 11TH PARACHUTE REGIMENT, who was sadly killed by a sniper at Ranville, Normandy. Original Parachute Regiment Beret. This was given to his wife by the recipient before he returned from a leave in 1943. Brown"s Granddaughter stated that his parting words were, " You keep hold of this because I won"t be back" Green Howards, Cap badge, shoulder title Sweetheart Brooch and 1933 green Howards Novice Featherweight boxing medal named to "Winner A brown" A box of silks handkerchiefs sent to his wife. Soldiers service book to Brown, in poor condition. Photograph of his original grave. A frame containing his original Memorial Scroll, the telegram informing his wife of his death, Buckingham palace slip and photograph of his grave. With recent photographs showing a memorial plaque to brown, close to the spot where he was killed by a sniper Indian General Service Medal North West Frontier 1936-37 and 1937-39 to 4449027 Pte A Brown 2nd BTN Green Howards ( An original medal however, skimmed and unofficially named, the original sadly lost. His entitlement to the medal is confirmed on the medal roll) 1939/45 Star France and Germany Star Defence Medal War Medal With box with issue addressed to Mrs E A Brown, 1 Trimdon Street, Millfield, Sunderland, County Durham. Swing Mounted as worn. Condition EF Alfred Brown was born in Millfield, Sunderland, Durham in 1913. He served in the Durham Light Infantry from 13th May 1931 to 27th August 1933. He subsequently served transferred to the Yorkshire Regiment and saw active service on the Northwest Frontier. Brown passed the rigorous Parachute Regiment course and joined the 7th Bn, transferring to the 13th in preparation for Operation Overlord. He jumped into Normandy on D - Day and was sadly killed in action by a Sniper on 10th June 1944 at Ranville. The local villagers erected a plaque close to the spot he was killed; it reads ' L/Cpl Alfred brown 13. Para BN Gave his life here for Freedom. 10th June 1944. Always Remembered' Arthur was laid to rest in Ranville Cemetery. His wife was pregnant when he was killed, which caused early labour; they had been married for a little over a year. She never remarried.
