British WWII OBE group to Chief Engineer Officer Henry Paterson Merchant Navy MBE including: The 1939-45 Star, Italy Star, Atlantic Star and War Medal with a large framed Citation for his OBE. Contains a selection of copy photographs and research etc, he is mentions in the London Gazette, 10th June 1944.
Two Royal Life National Life Boat Institution Medals awarded to William H.H. Mogridge, Coswain of the Brixham Lifeboat; bronze medal dated 13th February 1936 with clasp for second award dated 11th February 1937, silver medal dated 12th January 1939, clasp for second award dated 8th February 1940, together with a French Maritime Medal for Courage inscribed to 'W. Mogridge 1935' and supporting photographs and newspaper cuttings. William Mogridge was appointed Coxswain of the Torbay Life Boat in October 1932. On the evening of 30th December 1935, he took the Torbay lifeboat George Shee on a three hour journey through stormy seas to rescue the one remaining crew member on the French trawler, Satanicle, sinking 15 miles off Start Point. It took a further five hours to return through the heavy seas to Brixham. The second award of the Silver Life Boat Medal for Gallantry , resulted from an incident on 16th December during which seven lives were saved from the Truro schooner 'Henrietta', which had been driven onto a reef in a gale. A tug and a trawler were standing by, but could do nothing to help. The captain of the schooner feared that no boat could get near, but Coxswain Mogridge took his lifeboat right alongside and in three minutes, had rescued all seven men..
