His original YMCA Book full of hand drawn caricatures of fellow POW's. Dent was a good amateur artist and the lot includes his sketch book with self portrait. 1944 Newspaper article about Dent of Batley, Yorkshire. RMS Trent Diplomatic Incident 1861 (American Civil War) Naval General Service Medal 1847 with Syria clasp, named (Richd Williams, Mate.). With St Jean D'Acre Medal silver (for junior officers), unnamed as issued. With research, served as a Mate on the Thunderer. Mate 2/3/1831, Lieut 4 November 1840, and Commander 10 Oct 1855. Died 27 August 1867. A note on his papers state he was involved forcible removing men from the "Trent" by an armed party from the American ship "San Jacinto", messrs Mason and Slidell. Commander Williams is recorded as the Officer who secured the Confederate dispatch bag and later delivered it to the Confederate envoys in London. This incident could have brought Britain into the US Civl War. A very interesting and rare piece.  VF  (2)
