Two Chinese export Imari chargers, c.1716, each decorated with the arms of Martin in gilt and copper-red, surrounded by panels of flowers, rocks and pavilions amongst foliate scrolls, 35.5cm and 40cm diameter (2) This service was made for Captain Matthew Martin, captain of the 32-gun East Indiaman 'Marlborough' which was saved by his seamanship at Canton in 1716 with a cargo then worth £200,000 (equivalent to £5 million today).
