At the beginning of the 2000s the author showed a change with respect to his painting, being a period in which he relaxed his aesthetic work with the strictest geometry, to introduce a more expressive language, where the gesture and the randomness became more important than the sobriety of the geometrical forms.Born and trained in Madrid, he was one of the founding members of the El Paso group. In 1954 he held his first solo exhibition of non-figurative works at the Buchholz gallery in Madrid. From then on Feito exhibited regularly in the most important cities in the world, such as Paris, Milan, New York, Helsinki, Tokyo and Rome. Appointed professor at the San Fernando School of Fine Arts in 1954, two years later he left teaching and went to Paris on a scholarship to study the avant-garde movements in force. During this period he was influenced by automatism and matter painting. In 1962 he became a founding member of the El Paso group, with which he had lost contact during his years in Paris. His first works were figurative painting, followed by a phase in which he experimented with cubism and finally moved fully into abstraction. At first he only used black, ochre and white colours, but when he discovered the potential of light he began to use more vivid colours and smooth planes. He evolved until he used red as a counterpoint in his compositions (from 1962) and, in general, more intense colours. In his abstract phase, which includes the 1970s, Feito showed a clear tendency towards simplification, with the circle predominating in his compositions as a geometric form. Possibly, the influence of Japanese art can be seen in his preference for large bands of black. Most of his works are untitled and can therefore be recognised by a number assigned to them. Among his awards is his appointment as an Officer of the Order of Arts and Letters of France in 1985. In 1998 he was awarded the Gold Medal of Fine Arts in Madrid, and was made a Full Member of the San Fernando Royal Academy of Fine Arts. In 2000 he was awarded the Prize of the Spanish Association of Art Critics at the Estampa Salon, in 2002 the AECA Grand Prize for the best international artist at ARCO, in 2003 the prize for the most important artist at the Osaka Art Fair (Japan), in 2004 the Prize for the Culture of Plastic Arts of the Community of Madrid, in 2005 the Francisco Tomás Prieto Prize of the Fábrica Nacional de Moneda y Timbre, and in 2008 the Jorge Alió Foundation Prize and the Grand Prize for Spanish Contemporary Art CESMAI. Luis Feito is represented in the most important museums all over the world, including the Gallery of Modern Art in Rome, the Guggenheim, the MoMA and the Chase Manhattan Bank in New York, the Museums of Modern Art in Tokyo, Paris, Rio de Janeiro and Montreal, the Lissone in Italy, etc.

EUGENIO GRANELL (A Coruña, 1912 - Madrid, 2001)."Hunter, 1945.Oil on panel.Signed and dated in the lower right corner.Size: 23 x 30 cm; 32 x 43 cm (frame).In the work presented here Granell shows a notable reduction of compositional elements, prioritising the figures, dispensing with the scenographies of previous periods, constructing the characters from masses of flat and intense colours. These resources enhance the monumentality of the figures and increase their symbolic and morphological description. Another characteristic element of this work is the use of the colour black as a contour line that generates forms.A painter, watercolourist, engraver and sculptor, Eugenio Fernández Granell spent his childhood in Santiago de Compostela, a city that would largely influence his plastic work. Initially inclined towards music, in 1928 he moved to Madrid to study violin at the Escuela Superior de Música. In the capital he frequented intellectual circles linked to Marxism, and finally joined the Partido Obrero de Unificación Marxista (Marxist Unification Workers' Party) in 1935. At the outbreak of the Civil War he joined the Republican army, and also edited "El combatiente rojo", his party's newspaper. However, after the end of the war, he was persecuted both by the new regime and by his communist comrades for being a Trotskyist. He went into exile in France in 1939, and after passing through several concentration camps, he left for South America. He settled in the Dominican Republic, where he joined the Symphony Orchestra as first violin. However, when the Trujillo dictatorship hardened, Fernández Granell left the country to settle in Guatemala, where he taught at the Escuela de Artes Plásticas. When the Guatemalan revolution broke out in 1950, he had to flee again for fear of Stalinist persecution, and this time he arrived with his family in Puerto Rico, where the painter took up the chair of Art History in the Faculty of Humanities. However, despite this continuous wandering, Fernández Granell continued his artistic work, holding exhibitions and publishing books of short stories and poetry. In 1956 he met Marcel Duchamp, who flattered his plastic and poetic art and reinforced his surrealist activity. That same year he moved to New York, where he settled permanently. Professor of Spanish Literature at Brooklyn College in the city, during this period he obtained a doctorate in Sociology from the New School for Social Research, with the thesis "Picasso's Guernica. The end of a Spanish era" (1967). Fernández Granell remained in New York until 1985, when, after retiring, he returned to Spain with his wife, settling in Madrid. Already widely recognised, he was awarded important prizes such as the Gold Medal for Fine Arts. In 1995, the foundation that bears his name was established in Santiago de Compostela, which today houses most of his artistic production.
Naval General Service medal 1793-1840, 1 clasp Algiers (impressed Isaac Duck), VF. Duck served aboard HMS Queen Charlotte as a gunner with the Royal Marine Artillery. He had also seen service at the Battle of Anholt on 27th March 1811 where returns show he was slightly wounded. The Danish Forces attempted to recapture Anholt from the British and landed a force of nearly 2000 but were unsuccessful, having over 600 surrendering to the Royal Marines Garrison and 200 killed, whereas the British Forces had 2 killed and 50 wounded. Wing Commander Terence Helfer DFC AFC (1920-2010) A WWII RAF group of seven: DFC, AFC, 1939-45 Star, Air Crew Europe Star, Defence Medal, War Medal and General Service medal, together with corresponding miniatures, Caterpillar Club badge and ribbon bars, together with four logs books including those with dates for crash landing in the sea off Wells 2nd September 1941 and spending three days in a dinghy and being shot down 20th September 1945, a photograph album with Goldfish club card, service photographs and telegrams, including one from Air Chief Marshall A T Harris congratulating T Helfer for receiving the DFC. , together with a collection of photographs and ephemera relating to his service, including an account of the downing of K Aircraft 218 Squadron 2nd September 1941, a RAF silk map of Sweden, photographs and a later account of his injuries received when his Lockheed Hudson was shot down during an SOE Operation in 1945, also a pair of RAF epaulettes, buttons related items.*Notes- As Flight Lieutenant Terence Helfer was awarded the DFC on June 1st 1945 .'Flight Lieutenant Helfer has completed many operational sorties and throughout has displayed the highest standard of efficiency and devotion to duty. He has undertaken many hazardous missions and on two occasions has had to bring his damaged aircraft down on the sea, being rescued after being adrift in the dinghy for some time on each occasion. Despite these experiences he has shown outstanding keenness for operational flying and has proved a most valuable asset to his squadron.'As part of No.161 (Special Duties) Squadron he flew Hudsons at low level on night sorites. On one such occasion bringing out the Algerian Liberation Committee from behind German lines.
