A family group of medals comprising a WWI Military Medal, for 21231 Sjt: T.A. Brantingham. 22/Manch:R. with his 1914-15 trio named to 21231 Cpl. T.A. Brantingham. Manch.R. later Sgt. on the War and Victory Medals, with matching miniature medals, both sets mounted as worn. He was gazetted in the supplement of the 22nd January 1917, page 830, with many photographs of him in uniform, he was later promoted to Temporary 2nd Lieutenant in the Machine Gun Corps,also ephemera to include a silver M.G.C. cap badge with damaged lugs, collar dogs, a pocket compass marked 1915 etc, and a Mons Star trio for 5025 Pte. W. Brantingam. 9/Lrs, also his spurs, attestation parchment, he joined in 1909, and his medal packet. Presumably brother of Thomas above.
An interesting WWI medal group awarded to 314495 Carpenter James Lavery of Carrickfergus, Ireland comprising War and Mercantile Marine Medals (both simply named 'James Lavery'), accompanying official documentation including Identity and Service Certificate with photograph, Certificate of Discharge (x2, these no. 23934 and 536234 respectively detailing service on S.S. Rathlin Head), Board of Trade letter, an unofficial S.S. Rathlin Head base metal badge, etc; also a Norwegian 'For Aedeldaad' life-saving medal awarded to James Lavery, named and dated 19-11-1916 to reverse accompanied by official Norwegian language certificate and letter detailing the circumstances of award: 'Norwegian Seamens' Industrial Society on behalf of His Majesty The King have awarded Carpenter James Lavery, medal and silver for Life Saving and Meritorious Service in saving the crew of barque 'Sara' at Fredriksstad on 19th November, 1916'.A Norwegian ship named 'Sara' was stranded on Hendon Rock during passage from Gothenburg to Sunderland and sank despite the efforts of four tugs to save her; one tug saved the crew but the cargo, timber, was lost and scattered on the local beaches (https://www.wrecksite.eu/wreck.aspx?65547). CONDITION REPORT The War Medal has scratches and some bruises, some patination; other two medals similar, some pitting; paperwork as usual for documents of this age.

EIIR Prison Service Long Service and Good Conduct Medal, fine example housed in Royal Mint box of issue. Named around the edge to “OFF J MORTON LEE 472”. Mint condition. James Henry Morton was born in 1952 and joined the merchant navy at the age of 15. He joined the British Transport Police in Hull after doing 6 years service with the merchant navy. At the later part of 1974 he transferred to London but was not able to settle so eventually moved back to Hull. In 1975 he joined the prison service, first serving at HMP Everthorpe Borstal, then HMP Leeds, HMP Rudgate and then back to HMP Leeds. He retired in July 2012.
