A Great War pair and Memorial Plaque to 18513 Pte. L.H. Dubber. Hamps. R., British War Medal and Victory Medal, Memorial Plaque in card case (Leonard Henry Dubber), commiseration slip, and Memorial Scroll in original postage tube. Recipient was attached to the 122nd Company Machine Gun Corps, and died on October 6th 1916, at which time the Company was in action on Transloy Ridge.

"During the attack on the "P" Ridge, on 18 September 1918, he showed the greatest courage, coolness and devotion to duty. He set a fine example to all, and again and again rallied the men of his battalion and led them forward. After almost all the officers and men of his battalion had become casualties, he was the last officer to leave the "P" Ridge, and returned to Jackson Ravine, where he reorganised the remnants of the battalion, remaining with them throughout the day." WORLD WAR TWO DFC GROUP OF FIVE AND LOG BOOK Distinguished Flying Cross, reverse dated 1944 and engraved F/LT V.WALL 52519, case of issue, 1939-1945 Star, Air Crew Europe Star, Defence Medal and War Medal with `mention` emblem, corresponding set of miniature medals, framed `mention` dated 11 June 1942 FLIGHT SERGEANT V WALL, RAF, his RAF Observer`s and Air Gunner`s Flying Log Book recording 1324 hours of day and night flying between 27 October 1937 and 6 April 1945, contemporary head and shoulders photograph in uniform and several postcard and larger photographs of a Wellington bomber and crew Provenance: The recipient thence by descent to the present vendor. DFC: London Gazette, 22 February 1944, p909. The citation for the Distinguished Flying Cross reads: "Flying Officer Vernon Wall, RAF No 226 Squadron has been engaged on operations flying since the beginning of the war. He has participated in both day and night attacks of varied nature. On several occasions his technical skill and coolness have been largely responsible for the safe return of his damaged aircraft to base. Throughout a long period of operational duty, Flying Officer Wall, as wireless operator, has set a high standard of efficiency and despite many hazardous experiences, has retained his keenness to participate in operational flying." Covering an unbroken period of wartime service mainly in Bomber Command, commencing in 1937 and ending only a month before the German surrender, the Log Book details Wall`s career in No 103 and No 226 Squadrons RAF, interspersed with several postings to OTUs (Nos 11, 12, 13 and 28). He flew in no less than 16 different types of aircraft, including biplanes of the inter war period such as the Hawker Demon and Fairey Seal and light/medium bombers, including the Blenheim and Wellington.
