WEBB ) still contained in their named boxes,Richard Howard Webb was born in 1897 to William Howard Webb and Ada E. Webb, records show he was a Gunner with the regimental number of 141766 in the 16th Reserve Battery Royal Horse and Royal Field Artillery, he went to France on 29th July 1916 and as a 2nd Lieutenant in 'A' Battery 237 Brigade Royal Field Artillery, died of wounds aged 19 years on 10th October 1916 during the Battle of the Somme, 237 Brigade R.F.A. was part of the 47th ( 2nd London) Division and consisted of Batteries from Fulham and Shepherds Bush, also included is a War List and Roll of Honour from Merchant Taylor School, Royal Artillery Officers collar badges and rank stars from 2nd Lt Webbs uniform, photographs of him in uniform, a Matriculation and Preliminary Law Exam Certificates, The War Graves of the British Empire catalogue, Certified Extract from Army War Records, a letter from the War Office addressed to 'Mrs W.H. Webb' transmitting the medals ' which would have been conferred upon' her son ' had he lived', a shooting medal in a fitted case, a retractable pencil, a jewellers loupe, and a pair of folding dividers, there is also a note, presumably from a family member, explaining that 2nd Lt Webb was shot in the back by a sniper when he had gone forward from the gun lines to observe the fall of shot from his battery, it also states that his mother was able to spend some time with him at the Field Hospital in France before he passed away, ( Qty )

RANKIN McILROY, THE ROYAL INNISKILLING FUSILIERS, OCTOBER 29 1917 M.C., BAR 1918 26 MARCH ', 1914-1918 British War Medal, and Victory Medal ( LIEUT. J.R. MC ILROY ), together with a miniature medal bar to the same medals, a fitted case for the M.C. with Imperial Crown embossed on the lid, a pocket knife with mother of pearl handle engraved ' J. RANKIN McILROY ', a photograph of Lt. McIlroy in Service Dress uniform with the ribbon of the M.C. and bar on left breast, and a photograph of Mr McIlroy in later life with his wife, John Rankin McIlroy was born in Llandewy, Wales on 19.09.1894, he joined the army as a Private in the 19th ( Public Schools ) Battalion Royal Fusiliers in Sept. 1914 and was commissioned into the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers in March 1915, during the course of the war he was wounded three times and was captured at the Somme in 1918 but escaped, he was awarded the Military Cross for his actions on 29th October 1917 and the bar to the M.C. on 26th March 1918, the citation in the Edinburgh Gazette dated April 29th 1918 reads, ' 2nd Lt. John Rankin McIlroy, R. Innis. Fus. Spec. Res., For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during a raid. He was the first of his party into the enemy trenches, shooting two of the enemy immediately. He was the last to leave, and assisted one of his serjeants in carrying back a badly wounded man. ', during the Second World War John McIlroy commanded the Emsworth Home Guard Battalion,married with three daughters, he ran the family business, s department store, ' McIlroy's , in Northfield, Portsmouth, he passed away in 1975 Also included are a number of letters to Mrs Florence McIlroy, formerly Florence Turner, her family used to entertain soldiers from a nearby military hospital while they were recovering from their wounds and it is believed this is where she met her future husband John, prior to this though she had met and become engaged to another officer, William Maynard ' Chip ' James of the 1st Battalion Monmouthshire Regiment who had been badly wounded in April 1915, there are a number of letters and field post cards from Captain James from the front line and it is clear the couple were much in love, tragically, Captain James was killed in action leading an assault on a German position on 8th October 1918, there is also a letter to Florence from John McIlroy just prior to their wedding in 1922 outlining his hopes for the future and letters from other soldiers who had met Florence at her parents home while recovering and remembered it fondly, including a New Zealand officer who clearly wished to marry her himself,altogether a fine grouping and memorial to two very gallant soldiers and a remarkable lady, ( Qty )

H.M.S.JULNER 24 APRIL 1916 (Ships name misspelt) ) 1914-15 Star , 1914-1918 British War Medal, Victory Medal ( 6973A J. FEATHERBE. SMN. R.N.R. ) John Featherbe was born in 1896 and joined the Royal Naval Reserve at Folkestone, he was called up in 1914 and by August 1915 was serving in Mesopotamia in H.M.S. Alert, in April 1916 Featherbe volunteered with others to man H.M.S. Julnar a Mesopotamian river steamer which was commissioned into the Royal Navy on 17th April 1916 under the command of Lieutenant Humphrey Firman R.N assisted by Lieutenant Commander Charles Cowley R.N.V.R., and loaded with stores to undertake an extremely risky re supply operation to the besieged British 6th Indian ( Poona ) Division at Kut Al Amarah, on the night of 24th April 1916 H.M.S. Julnar set out on her mission, she very quickly came under rifle fire and ten miles from Kut she came under artillery fire, two miles further on she was hit by a shell killing Firmin and wounding Cowley, shortly after this she struck a cable streched across the river and drifted to the riverbank forcing Cowley to surrender, the Ottomans later claimed that Cowley was shot while trying to escape but it is likely he was executed as they regarded him as an Otterman subject because of his birthplace, both Firman and Cowley were awarded the Victoria Cross posthumously for their gallant attempt to reach Kut, Seaman John Featherbe was awarded the D.S.M. for ' miscellaneous services' during the action that night, also included in the lot is a grouping of Second World War medals,mounted separately,1939-1945 Star, Atlantic Star, Defence Medal and 1939-1945 British War Medal, that are also believed to have belonged to John Featherbe, there is also printed research on the attempt by H.M.S. Second World War grouping to a Women's Royal Naval Service officer, Marie Therese Rice was the daughter of a British army officer who married a French girl at the end of the First World War, the family moved back to the U.K. prior to the German invasion, she initially tried to join the First Aid Nursing Yeomanry but was refused due to her mother being of foreign birth though she was told she could be a driver in the Auxiliary Territorial Service, she accepted this offer but then turned it down in favour of joining the W.R.N.S., she served as a Leading Wren at the Royal Marine Military School at Thurlestone in Devon, an officer training establishment, before undergoing officer training and eventually reaching the rank of Second Officer, she appears to have married a Royal Marines officer and settled in Cornwall after the war, the grouping includes the Defence Medal and 1939-1945 British War Medal, photographs of Marie Rice in W.R,N.S. uniform both as a wren and officer, group photographs of wrens wearing R.M. cap badges, photos from the R.M Military School showing cadets being inspected by United States Marine officers, group photos, views of the establishment, one photo of note shows Captain Ian De'Ath R.M. who won the D.S.O. at the Battle of the River Plate and went on to command both 40 and 45 Royal Marine Commando's, ephemera from the School includes daily orders dated 12th September 1942, leave ticket and dance invitation, there are two photograph albums, one with with family photographs in France, Portugal, Spain in the 1920's and 30's, and includes an abstract of the log of the Cunard liner R.M.S. Second World War grouping to a soldier in the Suffolk Regiment, Private Arthur Leeks, to include 1939-1945 Star, Pacific Star, Defence Medal, 1939-1945 British War Medal still in addressed delivery box with entitlement slip,1938 Suffolk County Championship shooting medals with newspaper cutting giving award winners, a photo of Private Leeks in uniform with shooting trophies, Arthur Leeks birth certificate, in Arabic, issued in Cairo, a copy of the Suffolk Regimental Gazette dated July-August 1940, a quantity of Japanese Ten Dollar notes ( approx. 110 ) Japanese invasion money, officially known as Southern Development Bank Notes was currency issued by the Japanese Military Authority, as a replacement for local currency, Arthur Frederick Claude Leeks was born in Cairo, Egypt, his father, William John Leeks being a Captain in the Suffolk Regiment, after growing up in a military environment, Arthur spent some time in the Police before himself joining the Suffolk Regiment in the Territorial Army, Arthur proved himself a first class shot with the rifle winning medals and trophies in county competitions, during the Second World War Arthur was deployed with the 18th Infantry Division to Singapore and was captured when the island fell to the Japanese in February 1942, he spent some time in Changi Prison in Singapore and was forced to take part in the building of the Burma Railway, during his captivity Arthur suffered a blow to the head by a rifle from a Japanese guard and when he passed away in 1984 a large blood clot was found on his brain, this having contributed to his death, ( Qty)

Rare German Third Reich Albert Leo Schlageter Commemorative medal, to the front a Maltese cross with swastika to the centre surrounded by the legend ' Schlageter Gedachtnis Bund E.V.', in a border within an oak leaf wreath the words ' Albert Leo Schlageter, 1923 26.Mai 1933 ', on the reverse the makers name ' R. Wachtler & Lange, Mitteweide ', Association name ' Schlageter Gedachtnis Bund E.V. Sitz Hannover ' and issue number ' 350 ', Albert Leo Schlageter, 12 August 1894 – 26 May 1923, was a First World War veteran and member of the German Freikorps, his activities sabotaging French occupying forces after WWI led to his arrest and eventual execution by French forces at the age of 28, his manner of death made him a martyr to German Nationalist organisations, particularly the Nazi Party, and this badge was issued on the tenth anniversary of his execution, in plated brass/tombac, the medal is missing the retaining hook and pin from the reverse and black enamel inlay between the Cross arms at the front and is priced accordingly, still a very rare item, dimensions 52 mm top to bottom, 40 mm across, weight 51.4 grams

British army officers Mess Dress uniform to Colonel Godfrey Tallents D.S.O. Lancashire Fusiliers, to include Mess Jacket of scarlet cloth, white piping, with scarlet silk roll collar displaying gold embroidered grenades, scarlet cloth shoulder straps with embroidered crown and star rank badges for a Lieutenant Colonel, cotton loops to left breast for medal bar, white cloth Mess Vest with regimental pattern buttons to front, blue overalls with scarlet cloth stripes down the seams, scarlet cloth braces, black Wellington boots with box spurs and plain rowels fitted, ( Qty ) ( Godfrey Edward Tallents was born on the 31st August 1883, he was educated at Wellington College and the Royal Military College Sandhurst, on passing out of the R.M.C. Tallents was posted to the 3rd Battalion Lancashire Fusiliers in the West Indies, he went on to serve with them in Malta and St. Helena,on the disbandment of the 3rd Battalion in 1906 transferred to the 1st Battalion, he was in India with this Battalion when the First World War broke out in 1914, 1st L.F. returned to the U.K. and joined the 29th Division, on 25th April 1915 1st L.F. landed on 'W' beach ( Lancashire Landing) Cape Helles, Gallipoli under a storm of fire, Tallents, by now a Captain, led an outflanking assault on the Turkish positions and was credited with breaking their line, later the same day he was badly wounded when he was shot in the head, the bullet entering the left side and exiting on the right shattering his eye socket into three pieces, for his actions that day Tallents was Mentioned in Dispatches and awarded the Distinguished Service Order, 1st L.F. suffered casualties of around 700 killed and wounded that day out of 1000 present and earned '6 V.C.'s before breakfast', after recovering in hospital in Malta Tallents returned to the U.K. briefly before going to France where he served on the Western Front as Staff Captain ( 177 Inf. Bde.), and G.S.O.2 (34th Div., 38th Div., GHQ, and 42nd Div. ) and was again mentioned in dispatches, after the war Tallents took command of 'D' Company 1st L.F. and then as a Major commanded the Depot Lancashire Fusiliers at Bury, he attended the senior officers course and in 1928 as Lieutenant Colonel took command of 2nd Bn. First World War era British army officers full dress tunic to a Lancashire Fusiliers Gallipoli D.S.O. winner, Godfey Tallents,the tunic is in scarlet cloth with cloth collar and cuffs in the regimental facing colour of white, the collar is ornamented with gold lace at the top and Russia braid at the bottom with grenades in gold embroidery, the cuffs are also decorated with gold lace and Russia braid forming an Austrian knot, there are seven of eight regimental pattern buttons with Kings Crown, six of which are wrapped in tissue paper for storage as per army regulations, six buttons on the reverse skirt also tissue wrapped, twisted round gold shoulder cords bearing the rank badges for a Lieutenant Colonel in bullion embroidery, red cotton loops for a medal bar to the left breast, together with a similar tunic named to F.C.Tanner ( Tanner was a Captain in 3rd Battalion Lancashire Fusiliers at the same time Tallents was a Lieutenant, (it is not known why Tallents was in possession of this tunic ),the Regimental buttons on this tunic are of Victorian pattern, the tunic is missing the gold lace from the left cuff,also included are blue dress uniform pantaloons, Tallent's Sword belt of black Morroco leather with gold lace and red Morroco leather sword slings, his gold and crimson Sword Knot, white doeskin gloves, and a photograph of Lt. Renown in the 1st Battle Cruiser Squadron at the Battle of Jutland, and in 1918 was present at the surrender of the German High Seas Fleet on H.M.S. Mixed Lot: a medal commemorating Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson (1758-1805) in bronzed base metal, obverse: the Admiral's bust within an oval border with palm and laurel branches surmounted by a Naval crown and placed on the side of an obelisk surrounded by flags to both sides, the base against which leans the figure of a weeping seaman is piled up with trophies of war, legend (on the base) "Gallant Nelson died in the hour of victory, 21 Octr AD. 1805" above the word "Trafalgar", the reverse depicting Britannia with lion behind and shield beside her, beneath the legend "In life victorious, in death triumphant" and with date 1805 in Roman numerals under, 5cm diam, small surface losses to edge; a cased silvered metal medallion commemorating The Trafalgar Square Monument 1843, by James Taylor of Birmingham, the obverse with Nelson's bust surrounded by "Adml Lord Nelson", the reverse depicting the Nelson column in Trafalgar Square, London, 40mm diam, a further example of the same (lacking most of the silvered finish and with edge losses) and a pair of small bronze medallions depicting to obverse a bust of Nelson surrounded by "Horatio Viscount Nelson" "born 29 September 1758, died 21 October 1805", the reverse depicting Foudroyant, Lord Nelson's flagship, legend below reads "Commenced building 1789, launched at Plymouth April 1798, wrecked at Blackpool June 16 1897", further inscribed under "medal struck from copper of vessel after breaking up", 35mm diam, together with a further example of the same medallion (6)
