Sir John Kyffin Williams (1918-2006) SNOW AND CLOUD ON SNOWDON Signed with initials l.r., titled verso, oil on canvas 41 x 51cm. Kyffin Williams was born on Anglesey in 1918 and was advised by his doctor to take up art due to ill health. Between 1941 and 1944 he studied at the Slade School of Fine Art, London and held the post of Senior Art Master at Highgate School, London from 1944 to 1973. In 1968 he was awarded a Winston Churchill Fellowship to study and paint the Welsh in Patagonia. Williams held his first solo exhibition at P. & D. Colnaghi, London, in 1949 and subsequent solo exhibitions at the Leicester Galleries, London, Glynn Vivian Museum & Art Gallery, Swansea, Howard Roberts Gallery, Cardiff and the Tegfryn Gallery, Menai Bridge. He was President of the Royal Cambrian Academy from 1969 to 1976, and again from 1992. He was also a member of the Royal Academy and an Honorary Fellow of University College, Swansea. In 1991 Williams received the Medal of the Honourable Society of Cymmrodorion. He died in 2006.

ALBERT PRINCE: (1819-1861) Prince Consort of the United Kingdom, husband of Queen Victoria. L.S., Albert, one page, folio, Windsor Castle, 31st October 1851, to Antonio Panizzi. The letter, with facsimile text, reads, in part, `I have the honor, as President of the Royal Commission for the Exhibition of 1851 to transmit to you a medal that has been struck by order of the Commissioners, in commemoration of the valuable services which you have rendered to the Exhibition, in common with so many eminent men of all countries, in your capacity of Juror`. Prince Albert continues to commend Panizzi for the `zeal and ability` he has displayed in his `laborious office`. Small area of paper loss in the upper right corner and some neat splitting at the horizontal folds (repaired with tape to the verso), only very slightly affecting the text but not the signature. G Antonio Panizzi (1797-1879) Italian-born British Librarian and Italian Patriot. Chief Librarian at the British Museum Library 1856-66. The Great Exhibition of 1851 took place in Hyde Park, London, from 1st May-15th October. It was the first in a series of World`s Fair exhibitions of culture and industry that were to become popular in the 19th century.

ROOSEVELT FRANKLIN D.: (1882-1945) American President 1933-45. Vintage signed 6.5 x 9 photograph, an interesting image depicting Roosevelt standing outdoors behind a podium alongside Admiral Richard Byrd. The New York Governor inspects the Distinguished Service Medal which he has just presented to Byrd who is seen wearing his white uniform with the medal proudly hanging around his neck. Signed by Roosevelt in dark fountain pen ink to a clear area at the base of the image and dated Albany, 24th June 1930 in his hand. Some very light, minor discoloration to the lower white border, otherwise VG Rear Admiral Richard Byrd (1888-1957) American Naval Officer, Aviator and Polar Explorer. As well as the Navy Distinguished Service Medal with Gold Star, Byrd received many other medals including the Medal of Honor.
