The Frank Strike Collection of Cornish Shipwreck Lantern Slides An important collection of 'Magic Lantern' slides, annotated, catalogued, well preserved and boxed, together with a magic lantern projector made by JH Steward (Optician) of 406, Strand and 457 West Strand London. Grouped into categories; Shipwrecks: 221 slides, Life saving inventions: 24 slides, Porthleven: 68 slides, Breage: 9 slides, freedom of Helston: 12 slides. Multiple historical images, the majority taken by by the Gibson family of photographers and Alfred Hawke of Helston.Shipwreck subjects include: Alexander Yeats 1896, Andola 1895, Bay of Panama 1891, early shipwreck diving on the Anson, Cromdale 1913, Cviet 1884, Glenbervie 1902, Jeune Hortense 1888, Lady of the Isles, Lamorna 1904, Marie Celine 1901, Minnehaha 1873, Mohegan 1898, Queen Margaret 1913, Seuvic 1907, Tripolitania, 1912, Barque William 1865 and multiple others.This exceptional collection was put together by the noteable local historian Frank Strike, and used by him for many years to give illustrated lectures. Frank Strike was born in 1895 and started out as a shipwright, later becoming a builder and undertaker. In 1929 he joined the coastguard, to which he dedicated forty years of his life. He held the Coastguard long service medal for 35 years as Number One in the Life-saving Team, during which time he was responsible for aiming and firing the rocket that carried the rope to the shipwreck. He started his slide collection in 1947 and went on to combine it with his passion for local history, particularly the history of Porthleven, by giving regular lectures with the slides. He gave lectures as often as once or twice a week. Frank died in 1967 and his collection has been carefully preserved by his family.

A group of five World War Two medals awarded to FG.Off J.F Walters (Joseph Frank Veijopek 1919-1997) to include Malaya general service medal, 1939/45 medal, 1939/45 Defence medal, Air Crew Europe star, 1939/45 star and miniatures, also Czech 1939/45 scouts cross medal, three framed medals of the Czech, French and Royal Airforce, also military fob watch mark IV No 1691, other watches, dog tag, various silk maps and various log books while with the Czech air force 1938/9, French Airforce 1939, log book with 32 squadron 1940-42 etc, coloured photographs and ephemera, together with his RAF officer's dress uniform with bar and wings. (qty) NB - Contrary to popular myth and corrected by the entry in FO Walters log book, Squadron Leader Wilfred Duncan did not fly in the last sortie where a Spitfire fired its guns in anger. On New Years Day 1951 Flight Officer Walters in NH850/Z flew in the raid on Kota Tinggi accompanied by Flt Officer Keogh and Flight Officer JC Smith as WDS was unfit to fly due to the previous night celebrations, so his plane was piloted by FO Walters.

Photograph of Martha Graham (American, 1894-1991) taken in 1979 by Andy Warhol. Martha Graham was an American modern dancer and choreographer. Her style, the Graham technique, reshaped American dance and is still taught worldwide. Graham danced and taught for over seventy years. She was the first dancer to perform at the White House, travel abroad as a cultural ambassador, and receive the highest civilian award of the US: the Presidential Medal of Freedom with Distinction. In her lifetime she received honors ranging from the Key to the City of Paris to Japan's Imperial Order of the Precious Crown. Measures 16.5" x 15.25" including frame, 4.25" x 3.5" photograph. Adam Henein was born in Cairo in 1929 into a family of metalworkers. In 1953, he graduated from School of Fine Arts, Cairo, he went on to receive a two-year grant to study at the Luxor Atelier. The atelier was established a decade earlier by the notable Egyptian artist and scholar Mohamed Nagi to promote Egyptian art education in school circular. In 1954 and 1956 Henein received the Luxor price for his artistic achievements. Two years later, he received a diploma in advanced practices from the Munich Academy in Germany.In 1971, Adam Henein was invited to participate in an Egyptian contemporary art exhibition in Paris at the Musée Galleria. He spent the next two and half decades, from 1971 to 1996 in Paris pushing his practice through sculpture and painting and continued focusing on ancient Egyptian themes and traditional materials. The early 1970s marked an important evolution in Henein's artistic practice, whilst in Paris he was given the opportunity to be exposed to the work of great western modern sculptors and artists whose freedom of interpretation he found to be deeply inspiring.In the late 1990s, Henein returned to his homeland. He contributed greatly to his Egypt's cultural landscape, particularly in Aswan where he established the city's annual International Sculpture Symposium. Upon his return to Egypt he was also appointed by the Minister of Culture to head the design team involved in the restoration of the Great Sphinx in Giza. Henein was awarded Egypt's State Medal, the State Merit Award, as well as the Mubarak Award in the arts. His works have been exhibited at the Institut du Monde Arabe in Paris, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, The MATHAF in Doha, The ASB Gallery in Munich as well as in London and Rome.Throughout his vast career Henein produced a significant number of large and small-scale sculptures handling a variety of different mediums such as bronze, granite, plaster, limestone and terracotta. In 2014, the Adam Henein Museum opened its door in Cairo's Al-Harraniya district, which is a priceless gift from the artist himself to his native country. Much of the all-male club's activity revolved around sex and erotica, specifically 'the convivial celebration of male sexuality', with members meeting twice yearly on Candlemas and St. Andrew's Day. Members dined in their green silk sashes and wore these medals, the badges of the Order, at the annual meeting and dinner at their Castle of Dreel headquarters on St. Andrew's Day. As the popularity of the Club increased, the headquarters was moved to Edinburgh. The Club became large and sprawling, with branches established in Edinburgh, Glasgow and St. Petersburg. The 'Beggar's Benison' was drunk as a toast at aristocratic dinners in London in a coded reference to sex.
