Battle of Trafalgar, Boulton's Medal, 1805, a tin example, indistinctly named and further inscribed, ''Revenge'', the rim inscribed, ''FROM M. BOULTON TO THE HEROES OF TRAFALGAR'', 48 mm diameter, together with the early 19th century pale blue silk medal neck ribbon, gilt and black-lettered, ''Trafalgar'' and ''Revenge'' (2) Provenance: By family repute the recipient of this medal was John Wray The National Archive does indeed list a John Wray, a Landsman, age 21, from Ripon, North Yorkshire who served on the Revenge. Medal significantly oxidised rendering much of cast detail and inscription illegible. Holed near top rim. Scratched initial ''R'' to centre. Medal neck ribbon in fragile condition. Numerous splits to silk. Overall soiling. Lettering quite clear however.

An Early 19th Century Officer's Flintlock Pistol by John Prosser of London, carried at Waterloo by Cornet of the 16th Light Dragoons William Beckwith of Trimdon, Co.Durham, the 23cm sighted russet steel barrel engraved CHARING CROSS, LONDON to the top flat, with foliate engraved line and tang, signed lock plate, slide safety, the walnut full stock with steel ramrod pipe, swivel ramrod, trigger guard with pineapple finial and with crisply diamond chequered grip to the compressed bag butt, the right side of the fore-end set with a brass plaque engraved CORNET WM.BECKWITH, 16TH LT. DRAGOONS, WATERLOO 1815, the left brass side plate engraved WILLIAM BECKWITH 16TH LIGHT DRAGOONS, Jany.7th 1813 to Novr.20th 1817. 14TH LIGHT DRAGOONS Novr.20th 1817 to Febry.23rd 1871, 38cm; together with the Journal of the Arms & Armour Society 2015 which contains an article on the pistol, it's maker and owner. **William Beckwith (1795-1871) purchased a commission for a Cornetcy with the 16th Light Dragoons in 1813. He received the Peninsular Medal (Military General Service Medal) with two clasps and the Waterloo Medal. In 1815 he was promoted to Lieutenant, in 1817 he transferred to the 14th Dragoons, and progressed through the ranks to become General in 1869. Action works, holds at full and half cock. Cock is a very good replacement. Fine pitting to metalwork. Some pitting to bore. Lieutenant Colonel Harry Stephen Bagnall, Burma Rifles (late Green Howards) - an Interesting Collection of Letters, Photographs and Ephemera Relating to his Family and Career in Burma and India, including his commission as 2nd Lieutenant to the Yorkshire Regiment, 1911, an embarkation notice from Bombay to England 1919, sports programmes, newspaper cuttings, dance card, table plans, letters of regret dated 1938 at his leaving Mandalay where he commanded the 2/20th Burma Rifles, letters to him from an Italian Prisoner of War in a camp in India which he had commanded in the 1939-45 War; and also including a letter in gilt tooled leather wallet relating to his grandfather Capt. John Nock Bagnall 12th (Bilston Company of Staffordshire Volunteers); his father's (Thomas Nock Bagnall) commission as 2nd Lieutenant 15th Foot, 1874, with a silver shooting medallion to Lt.Col. She was carrying a cargo of Scotch Whisky from Glasgow to New York.

Charge of the Light Brigade. Fˆte in Commemoration of the Balaclava Charge. Alexandra Palace, Muswell Hill. Monday, October 25th, 1875, 1st edition, R. K. Burt & Co., 1875, 32 pp., text framed in red, light spotting, printed slip ('Committee of the Balaklava Charge Banquet') tipped to p. 19, ownership inscription 'Florence Nightingale Cattermole, November 1875' to front free endpaper (see note), printed obituary notice for William George Cattermole (single sheet headed 'Balaclava. The Last Man Back', 20.5 x 13.4 cm) laid in, original red morocco, front board ruled and lettered in gilt, extremities rubbed, very slight loss to foot of spine, 8vo (21.7 x 13.5 cm) Rare souvenir programme, one copy traced in libraries (at Tredegar House, National Trust). This copy belonged to one Florence Nightingale Cattermole, presumably a relative of William George Cattermole (d. 1884), who participated in the Charge of the Light Brigade as a member of the 17th Lancers, and according to the accompanying printed obituary 'was the last man of his regiment back from the ever memorable charge'. He was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal and later served as troop sergeant major in the Yeomen of the Guard; the tipped-in slip at page 19 lists him as a member of the banquet committee. (1)

A Wedgwood and Bentley blue and white jasper portrait medallion of Carolus Linnaeus circa 1775-80, modelled by John Flaxman, oval, 6.2cm high Linnaeus famously introduced a system of classifying plants. In 1775, a bill was submitted by John Flaxman to Wedgwood for 'Moulding and making a cast from a Medal of Lennaeus Mending a wax medal and making a Mould from it'. The wax medal was probably an original by Inlander, modelled in 1773.
