AN IMPORTANT EARLY ISSUE QUEEN'S GALLANTRY MEDAL AWARDED TO ACTING FLIGHT SERGEANT WILLIAM BARKER OLDROYD, ROYAL AIR FORCE PROVOST AND SECURITY SERVICES FOR ACTION DURING THE CYPRUS EMERGENCY OF 1974, offered with Oldroyd's RAF Long Service and Good Conduct medal and matching miniature medals, together with a comprehensive portfolio chronicling  the circumstances giving rise to the award of the QGM.  (a pair)   Acting F/S William Barker Oldroyd was awarded the QGM, along with Acting Squadron Leader R A Chasemore, his Commanding Officer, for their joint efforts in dealing with a fire adjacent to a petrol store at Nicosia Airport and while under enemy fire from Turkish aircraft.  The full citation can be referenced in the Supplement to The London Gazette, 21st January 1975 at page 880.
