Crimea Medal with clasps for Sebastopol, Inkermann, and Alma.Privately engraved naming to 2705 George Morgan 49th Regt.Notes: clasps are confirmed on the medal roll.The engraved naming is contemporary to the medal, with the service number and regiment being in a serif font, and the name in running script.Condition: generally fine condition.The suspension would normally be the swivelling type, but for reasons unknown, this appears to have been neatly soldered thus turning it into a fixed suspender.Toning to both the medal and clasps.Polishing wear to both sides.

An interesting selection of WW1 medal singles, including an officer casualty and a military medal winner.To include: a Victory medal named to 2nd Lt P.Ward - This is believed to relate to 2nd Lt Philip Ward, Manchester Regiment. He died 27th December 1917 aged 19.Also, a BWM named to 3.8312 Pte. W. Othick Yorkshire Regiment. He is also entitled to the 1914 star and the Military Medal.Othick is mentioned in the National Roll of the Great War, where it is noted that he ‘volunteered in 1914, and later that year was sent to the Western front where he saw 4 years of active service.He fought in the Battle of Ypres, the Somme, Arras, and many other important engagements. He was wounded 3 times in action. He was awarded the Military Medal for conspicuous bravery in the field’.Plus, a 1914-15 star named to 7433 Pte George Bird North Staffordshire Regiment. He is also entitled to the BWM and Victory medal.And, a Victory medal named to 204746 Pte Arthur Jepson York’s & Lancs Regiment. He is also entitled to the BWM and Silver War Badge (Badge Number B87981).4 items.Condition: All medals are complete with ribbons, with the 1914-15 star ribbon being a later replacement.Each medal is in good condition, with only normal age related signs of wear.
WW1 German medal group.To include: an Iron Cross 2nd class, maker marked S-W to the suspension ring (Sy Wagner, Berlin), a Bavarian Merenti Cross of Military Merit, 3rd Class, and an original WW1 1915 dated Soldbuch for a soldier in the 3rd Infantry Regiment.Condition: generally good.The painted core to the Iron Cross is good and without corrosion, the Merenti Cross has a small amount of verdigris to the surface.The Soldbuch has heavy surface wear, but the details to the interior pages is clear.3 items.
4 piece sterling silver 19th century tea set, with Wiltshire military interest.Comprising of a teapot, coffee pot, sugar bowl, and cream jug.Notes: although the set has engraved decoration that matches across all 4 pieces, the set has been built over a period of time, with each piece having a different date letter.All pieces are named to a Pte, later Cpl S.B. Wheaton of the 1st Wiltshire Rifle Volunteers, and would appear to have been awarded as prizes between 1865 and 1873 (probably for marksmanship).It seems likely that all 4 pieces started life as plain pieces, and been later decorated in an identical style in the 1870’s.The teapot is hallmarked for London 1835, with the silversmiths mark for John Tapley.Weight 538.3g The coffee pot is hallmarked for London 1863, with the silversmiths mark for Charles Boyton.Weight 790g.The sugar bowl is hallmarked for London 1837, with the silversmiths mark for John & Henry Lias.Weight 365.3g.The cream jug is hallmarked for London 1871, with the silversmiths mark for Charles Boyton.Both the teapot and coffee pot have ivory insulating rings to the handles.Plus, a cased rifle shooting bronze medal, dated 1886, unnamed, but likely awarded to the same person.Weight 222.9gCombined weight 1916.4g / 61.61 ozt Condition: generally very good.Some normal signs of use, with light contact marks to the body, and some tiny, shallow dents to a couple of the items.Cites reference: MN58QL4U
A WW1 Distinguished Conduct Medal / Long Service medal group, awarded to 39616 Battery Sergeant Major George Rowley RGA - Sgt Rowley later went on to become a casualty in WW2.To include: The DCM named to 39616 B.S.MJR G.Rowley 332/SGE BY RGA, the 1915 Star trio, the India General Service medal with clasp for North West Frontier 1930-31, and a Long Service & Good Conduct medal with Regular Army clasp.The latter 2 medals have the service number 1409054.Notes: George Rowley entered the war in France on July 11th 1915.His DCM citation appears in the London Gazette on November 15th 1918.His citation reads:39616 B.S.M. G.Rowley R.G.A. (Leicester).‘For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty.While the battery was in action under an enemy bombardment a gas shell put the whole of one detachment out of action and set fire to some cartridges in the gun-pit.He at once assisted an officer to put out the fire, thereby saving the ammunition and averting what would have been a serious fire. They then got the gun into action and fired it until relieved by a fresh detachment.He set a splendid example of his coolness and determination on this and many other occasions’.According to the Army Roll of Honour 1939-1945, 1409054 Sergeant George Rowley DCM died on February 20th 1943 while serving in the United Kingdom as part of the Intelligence Corps aged 51.His birth place is listed as Wolverhampton, but he was residing in Bristol at the time of his death and is also buried in Bristol.His name also appears on the CWGC website where it also indicates that he was the recipient of another gallantry award, the Military Medal.We’ve not been able to confirm the details of this award, nor when it was awarded.Given his WW2 service, it’s likely that he received at least one medal for war service, but his exact entitlement for this era is unknown.6 items.Condition: all of the medal are minus their ribbons.There is some wear to each of the medals from polishing, which has resulted in loss of detail.There are also contact marks from wear (it’s believed they were originally mounted on a bar).

Sykes Northumberland Fusiliers.Plus, his silver war badge, numbered B22143 to the reverse, and a WW1 era Christmas card.Notes: Pte, later L/Cpl Herman Sykes was part of the 23rd, the 20th and the 9th Northumberland Fusiliers.He enlisted 18th Feb 1916 and was discharged 4th October 1918 (due to a gun shot wound).4 items.Both his medal entitlement and SWB are confirmed on the rolls.
A WW2 war and defence medal, awarded to 149281 F/O J.R.Roberts R.A.F.V.R.Also, an associated pair of miniature medals, card medal transit box, an R.A.F. service and release book (named to J.R.Roberts), a pair of R.A.F. Shoulder boards, a pair of fibre dog tags named to J.R.Roberts, and brass R.A.F. Uniform buttons.Additionally, there are several WW2 era gilt metal and enamel Red Cross medals, badges and insignia, some of which are named to Miss Joan Mary Body (later the spouse of J.R.Roberts named above), and a number of WW2 dated British Red Cross certificates named to Miss Body.Notes: According to information supplied by the vendor, 149281 F/O J.R.Roberts served in the Royal Air Force from July 6th 1943.He was commissioned in August 1943 in the technical branch.He served overseas in Iceland from March 1944 through to March 1945, and later in Germany just after WW2.Miss Joan Body is the daughter of C/Sgt Body, who’s WW1 medals are offered in a separate lot.Of note is the fact that John Roberts was the 1st cousin of Pte Maurice Gillespie of the Canadian Infantry (sold in a separate lot).Condition; generally very good, with only light service and age related wear.
British WW1 Picture and Glass Negative of F.W Stanbridge who joined 53rd Royal Sussex Regiment but was underage but was kept on as a driver for the regiment with his cap badge and other badges, Also his almost complete Safe Driver Medal and Clasps from 1934 to 1963 when he was a bus driver (including war time driver clasps).
WW1 casualty pair, with plaque, condolence slip and facsimile scroll to 5810 Pte G.Norman 2nd Battalion Dorset Regiment.Note: there appears to be a clerical error in the original records for Pte Norman.The medal index card states his death as 29th April 1916, while the CWGC state his date of death as being December 31st 1916.The April date would correspond with the Siege of Kut in Mesopotamia when the 2nd Battalion Dorset Regiment was captured.Condition: generally very good, the silver medal has toned, as has the death plaque in places.The condolence slip has some grubby marks.The original brown envelope for the plaque is torn, but complete.As mentioned above, the scroll is photocopy of the original - the location of the original is unknown.

A WW1 British medal trio, named to 34308 Gnr George Richardson RFA.To include: the 1914-15 star, BWM, and Victory medal.Notes: Gnr Richardson commenced his service with the Royal Field Artillery with the service number of 34308.He later went on to serve with the Railway Operating Division of the Royal Engineers, using the service numbers 201459, and 26719.His medal index card confirms this as his only entitlement.This trio of medals is part of a family group of medals, spanning over 3 or 4 generations of the Richardson family.His father’s or possibly Grandfather’s Egyptian campaign medals are in the previous lot, whereas his son’s Korean War medals are in the next lot.Condition: generally very good.The 1914-15 star is missing its ribbon.
2 WW1 single medals.To include: a Victory Medal and Scroll named to 10560 Pte George R Syrett Welsh Regiment.This medal includes some research indicating that Pte Syrett was ‘Missing Presumed Dead’ during the Battle of Loos on 26/09/1915, and part of the original card medal box.Plus a BWM named to 26038 Pte Thomas Brophy 9th Dublin Fusiliers.Research included with this medal indicates that Pte Brophy is also entitled to the Victory Medal.He was also admitted to Hardwicke Hospital on November 2nd 1918 suffering from Shell Shock.Condition: the medals are in good condition.The memorial scroll is mostly complete, but is torn and taped together in several places to the reverse.
WW1 Austrian enlisted man’s brass belt buckle.With retainer loops and prongs to reverse.Plus a WW2 era NSDAP public service decoration, with silvered finish and enamel detail.And, a WW2 era bronze German African campaign medal.3 items.Condition: the buckle is a little bent at the edges and some minor verdigris to the reverse side.The public service decoration is missing its original suspension, and now has a large pin as a replacement.The German African campaign medal has a good overall colour and patina, but is missing its original ribbon - there is some extremely minor verdigris spots to the front side.
Sutlej Medal with Moodkee 1845 in exergue, plus clasps for Sobraon and Ferozeshuhur.Officially impressed naming to George’s Huble 9th Regt.Condition: toning to both sides and clasps.Suspension slightly slack, but still firmly attached.Some edge knocks at the 2 and 3 o’clock position when looking at the obverse (this does not impact on the naming).Plus, a bruise to the very edge of the rim, only visible on the reverse side at the 2 o’clock position.
East and West Africa medal with Benin 1897 clasp.Officially impressed named to G.Oaks. Stoker HMS Theseus.Notes: HMS Theseus was an Edgar-Class protected cruiser, commissioned in 1896.Condition: good.Overall toning to back, front and clasp.Usual swivel suspension.Light contact marks commensurate with wear.
WW1 era German Iron Cross 2nd class, with period award certificate (the whole group is framed and glazed).The Iron Cross is of the usual 3 part construction, with a silvered frame and painted iron core.Complete with its original ribbon.The certificate is named to ‘Pioneer Hermann Hornung 5. Field Company.He was born on July 13th 1894 and received his award on September 7th 1915.Frame size: 35.5cm x 25cm.Condition: some foxing to the certificate, but the details are perfectly legible.The medal appears to be good, and is affixed to the certificate by a pin or staple.The frame shows wear and is held in place by tape in places.Please note: the frame is sealed, and therefore the reverse of the medal cannot be inspected.
WW1 French official issue Victory medal, with accompanying certificate named to ‘Marcle Jean Baptiste’ and dated seemingly dated 1932.The obverse has the designer’s name ‘A.Morlon’ in raised letters, and the reverse has the Paris mint mark.Complete with original silk ribbon.Approximately 3.5cm width.Condition: generally good.Some loss of gilt finish to both sides, with minor surface scuffing.The certificate has a small tear to the edge of the central fold line, but is otherwise in good condition for its age.
A collection of WWI and WWII medals of 1914-18 War Medal & Victory to 20665 PTE H. Wheeldon of the Royal Warwickshire Regiment who ended his WW1 service in the North Staffordshire Regiment (number 57254) after being shot in the face and chest leaving him badly disfigured but volunteered to stay in the service after 75 days in hospital and work as a signaller and general jobs man in the depot (absolute Hero). The WW2 medals of 1939-45 star, Africa star, Italy star, France and Germany Star, Defence Medal and 1939-45 War Medal came from the same family so could be H.Wheeldon’s son?
WW1 Military Medal, named to 235816 Cpl J. Holt 2 / East Lancashire Regiment.Complete with original ribbon.Notes: the medal index card indicates that Cpl Joseph Holt of Oldham is also entitled to the BWM and Victory medal.He was formerly with the 2/10th Manchester Regiment and attached to a Trench Mortar Battery.His Military Medal is a late WW1 award gazetted on 20/08/1919, with the schedule number 263200, and the Gazette No.67.Condition: good.Slight toning to the silver on both sides, with much detail still present.
An exceptional and rare WW2 and Post WW2 era medal group and photo archive to 908535 L/Cpl Gerald Hutchinson 1st S.A.S.Including a full size group of 7 medals, corresponding miniatures, WW2 era and Post WW2 era cloth badges, a WW2 era and later photograph album with many unpublished images, a 1st S.A.S. Regiment certificate signed by Paddy Mayne, a ‘Soldiers Service & Pay Book’, plus various post war association membership cards, pay books etc (where his unit is listed as 21st S.A.S. Artists Regt), a 1945 dated telegram informing Gerald of the birth of his son (addressed to HQ Sqd 1st S.A.S.), a scarce 21st S.A.S Regt (Artists) T.A. Christmas card, plus published books relating to the S.A.S.,3 scrap books with newspaper clippings relating to the S.A.S compiled by Gerald in his later life, and a book of poetry written by Gerald in the WW2 era and post war era.Notes: Gerald Hutchinson (1922-1989) started his military career with service in the Royal Artillery 72nd Field Regiment, then later with the Royal Artillery Territorials.His tracer card also clearly mentions ‘Special Raiding Squad 1 SAS’.His medal group is mounted for wear, and includes the 1939-45 Star, the Africa Star with 8th Army clasp, the Italy Star, France & Germany Star, Defence Medal, 1939-45 War Medal, and the Territorial Efficiency Medal which is named to the edge as ‘908535 Pte G. Hutchinson Para.Regt’.His miniature medal group is also mounted for wear, but additionally the Territorial Efficiency Medal has 2 additional clasps for longer service (these are absent from the full size version).The 1st S.A.S. Regt card certificate certifies that L/Cpl Hutchinson served in the 1st Special Air Service Regiment from 05.06.42 to 16.11.45, during the following campaigns - Western Desert Italy.It also details his campaign stars awarded.This is dated 16.11.45 and is signed, albeit faintly by Lieut-Col Paddy Mayne.The cloth insignia includes a WW2 era set of embroidered wings, a post WW2 set of wings, a post WW2 1st S.A.S. Shoulder title, 2 bullion embroidered badges (the cap badge is possibly WW2 era), and a white screen printed badge, likely from a ski outfit, given its colour.The photograph album contained ‘snapshot’ images of Gerald and fellow servicemen within the regiment.Notably, these include images seemingly taken in North Africa, plus on ski manoeuvres in the Cedars of Lebanon circa 1943.The photograph of Paddy Mayne on the first page we believe is an already published image.The album is a fascinating archive of images relating to the S.A.S from the WW2 era through to the mid 1950’s.The majority of which will be so far unpublished so far as we can ascertain.There are a few loose photographs, one of which show L/Cpl Hutchinson smoking a pipe, and given the type of side cap he is wearing, this will date from circa 1942.According to information supplied by the vendor, Gerald moved to Canada after his service with the armed forces, where he took a job as a miner.He later worked for the DHSS up until his retirement.This is an incredible and rare archive charting the service of one man in one of the world’s most famous regiments.Please note: due to quantity of photographs and items within this archive, not all items are shown in the images.Condition: generally very good throughout.Normal light service wear to the medal groups and the cloth insignia.The photograph album and loose photographs show a little wear and tear, but are mostly in good condition.The paper ephemera shows normal wear, but the details contained on them remains legible.The remaining scrapbooks, publications and other items are mostly good, with just light wear and tear.

WW2 era SS sleeve, machine embroidered in light grey cotton on a black backing.Made in the so called ‘hammerhead’ style.Evidence of uniform removal, with visible stitch holes in places at the edge.Plus, a WW2 era German enamel stickpin for the Reichskolonialbund (Reich Colonial League).Silvered eagle and pin, with enamel infill.Marked Ges Gesch FBH to the reverse side.And, a WW1 era gilt bronze Furs Vaterland 1914 German medal with ribbon.Condition: generally good.3 items.The SS eagle has normal signs of service wear, with loose threads to the edge and a small amount of glue residue to the right wing tip.The stickpin is good, with undamaged enamels and minimal wear to the silvered finish.The gilt bronze medal has some wear to the finish, a couple of verdigris spots, and the ribbon is fairly dilapidated.

Rands Sto.2.To include: a 1914-15 Star, BWM, Victory Medal, and a Royal Navy LSGC medal (HMS Durban).Condition: all of the medals are very worn from polishing, with extensive loss of detail to some (date almost obliterated on 1914-15 star).Plus some edge knocks to each.The BWM suspension is slack and wobbles where it attaches to the disc.
A WW2 set of campaign medals, along with part of their original transit box and slip detailing the medals awarded.Comprising of 1939-45 star, Italy star, Defence medal, and War medal 1939-45.Plus, a WW1 era trench art paper knife, fashioned from bullet and piece of scrap brass.The knife is engraved ‘Charleroi 1919 to one side of the blade.Notes: the medals slip is named to ‘Maj Davis’The ribbon to the stars are mounted in an unusual way, with the ribbons being stitched onto the suspension rings.Condition: very good.The medals look mostly unworn.The box is a little dilapidated.

Wildfire.J.W.Ralph was born in Deal, Kent in 1875.A copy of his service sheet is included with the lot.Condition: generally good.The medals are swing mounted for wear on the original ribbons.Normal service wear to both the medals and ribbons.The LSGC medal is polished to the high pointsAll naming is correct and original.

Jamieson CH/X116573.Condition: mint, they appear completely unused.Notes: A note with the medals state that Cpl Jamieson was in the Royal Marines.
A rare 1882-89 Egyptian campaign medal pair, awarded to 7123 Pte G. Richardson 3rd Grenadier Guards.To include: the Egypt Medal with clasps for Abu Klee and The Nile 1884-85, and the Khedive’s Star 1884-86.Correct style of naming to the Egypt Medal, and the Khedive’s Star unnamed as issued.Notes: swing mounted on pin back bar, with original ribbons.Pte Richardson’s name is mentioned in a document dated August 5th 1887, confirming him as having served in the Nile Expedition 1884-5, but has since become ‘non effective’ since the rendering of medal roll.The cause of him being non effective is listed as him having been moved to the Army Reserve.Pte Richardson is one of only 36 recipients of the Abu Klea clasp who served in the 3rd Battalion Grenadier Guards.This medal pair is part of family group - please see following lots for Pte Richardson’s son’s (or grandson’s) WW1 medals, and his grandson’s (or Gt grandson’s) Gloucester Regiment Korean War medals.Condition: contact marks and wear from polishing to both medals, plus some minor edge bruising to the Egypt medal.The ribbons to both a soiled and somewhat frayed.The naming to the Egypt medal is mostly good, with just a little rubbing to the ‘3 GRENR GDS’ part.
A British No.7 MK1 bayonet and other military related items.To included: a 1948 dated No.7 bayonet, designed primarily for the Sten Gun.With paxolin grips and distinctive swivelling pommel.The blade is marked at the ricasso with ‘No7 MK1 L’ and to the other side it is faintly marked 1948 and what appears to be a letter P in a circle.This would likely related to the Poole factory, who produced around 30,000 of the 176,000 produced in total.The pommel is faintly marked ‘F5B’ and with a broad arrow mark, plus the other side is faintly marked ‘Made in UK’.Please note that the bayonet is minus its scabbard.Plus a Skean Dhu style sock knife, with citrine paste stone set into the pommel, and base metal mounts.A Irish clan badge style motif is inset into the grip, a cased Pingat Jasa Malaysia Medal complete with its miniature medal and ribbon bar, a WW1 era ‘Bovril Handy-Book & Diary of the War’, 2 x Peter Hicks bronze resin military figurines, and 2 vintage Dinky armoured vehicle toys.8 items.Condition: Varies across pieces.The No.7 bayonet is good, with only normal service wear.The Skean Dhu is in good condition.The WW1 booklet is in poor condition, with loose pages and creasing.The Pingat Jasa medal appears to be virtually mint.The resin figurines are in average condition, and one has rifle that appears to have broken away.The 2 Dinky toys are play worn, with missing tracks to the tank.

A selection of WW1 and WW2 related ephemera / documents.To include: a WW1 French Victory medal award certificate, dated 28th January 1935, a registered letter sent by Lloyds Bank from German occupied Jersey during WW2 (dated 1942), a Daily Mirror dated November 5th 1942, A black and white print with the signatures of 5 survivors of the Pearl Harbour Attack of December 7th 1941, a black and white print signed by the German U-Boat commander, Erich Topp, 2 publicity prints from the WW2 set 1962 film ‘The Longest Day’, a WW1 era ‘The Graphic Souvenir of the German Navy’s Surrender, dated 1918, plus 4 sheets of cigarette style cards stuck onto a linen backing cloth.
A rare Soviet Russian Medal of Ushakov.First instituted in 1944 in the Soviet Union as an award for courage.It was authorised for wear, by eligible British veterans, by H.M. Queen Elizabeth II in 2013.Produced in silver with usual applied anchor motif to the reverse.Folded ribbon with draped chain attached to a aluminium frame.Pin back fitting to the reverse.Notes; numbered 14573 to the reverse side.Approximately 3.5cm width x 4.8cm height (including suspension ring).Condition: service wear to both obverse and reverse, with contact marks and minute surface scratches.The ribbon has appeared to have faded a little, and is a little frayed to one side.Some surface verdigris is present to the metal ribbon frame.
4 German WW1 Cross of Honour medals (instituted 1934), plus other items.To include: 2 bronze examples with swords, a bronze example without swords, and a black painted widows cross version of next of kin.Plus, a WW1 Hungarian (Austro-Hungarian) medal for combatants, and 3 ribbon bars for WW1 and later.8 items.Condition: generally good to each piece.A little wear to the surface finish on a couple of the crosses.One of the ribbon bars is missing a ribbon to one side.The Austro-Hungarian medal is missing its ribbon.
Brandt, Christian Friedrich -- German-Danish War: Düppler Schanzen. 1864. 2 albumen prints joined at center with linen tape as a panorama. 17,5 x 41,5 cm. Mounted to original board (some foxing on verso), with printed title and photographer's name on the mount.This rare and well-preserved photograph was taken after the Prussian attack around the village Düppel (Düppler Schanzen). Like Roger Fenton and Matthew Brady, the photographer C.F. Brandt was confronted with a similar situation when photographing war; photographs could only be taken after the fighting had ended because exposure times were still long. Brandt was an experienced photographer and he participated in the International Photography Exhibition in Berlin in 1865 and was awarded a medal for his exceptional landscapes. – A few light spots/ surface scuff marks, otherwise strong prints in very good condition.

An Omega Chronograph pocket watch '15571144' C.1900's, Gun metal case, with a white porceline face 'Racine' Geneve, with inscription 'Commissioners of Irish lights' (The general Lighthouse authority for Northern Ireland) On a silver hallmarked chain - 1902. Also has a silver hallmarked fob/medal - Birmingham 1904 with Latin inscription 'Ex Terra Luciem' (From the ground light) also a watch chain wax seal (1850's?) with inscription 'Sine Qua Non' depicting a Woman, book, fishing rod, bottle of wine, horse and dog. Vendor stated it was originally owned by a Lighthouse keeper. (Glass has a very slight chip to bevel edge on left hand side, no crack to glass face)

Lot includes Soldiers release book, various certificates- including certificate of service and his wife's Identity card, also included his soldier's service and pay book
