Hendrik Willem Mesdag (1831-1915) Fishing boats moored offshore signed HW Mesdag bottom left watercolour 43 x 60cm. Hendrik Willem Mesdag (1831-1915) was born in Groningen. He was encouraged to paint by his father, the banker Klaus Mesdag, and studied under William Roelofs in Brussels and in 1968 moved to The Hague to paint the sea. In 1870 he won a gold medal at the Paris Salon for The Breakers of The North Sea. Between 1880-1881 he worked on a commission from a Belgian company to paint a panorama. This resulted in `Panorama Mesdag`, an epic painting 14 metres high by 120 metres around. Elected chairman of The Hague Society in 1889. In 1903 he gave his house at Laan van Meerderwot and his collection of paintings to the Netherlands; the house is now the Mesdag Museum.

Loyal Whitechapel Volunteers, engraved silver "Best Shot" Medal, 1809, radiant crown over fasces, crossed flags and armorial shields (of the donors), rev engraved inscription, "In the fiftieth Year of the reign of George the Third this Medal was presented by Lieut Coll Hardy and Major Coope of the Loyal White Chapel Volunteers to George Mackley the Best Shot, 1st Battalion Compy", 69mm, suspension loop and ring, London Hallmark, makers T. Phipps and E. Robinson. Good very fine. £150-200 A similar medal is recorded by D. Hastings Irwin, War Medals and Decorations, London 1899, p. 286, this awarded to "James Milner … Light Company".
The Battle of Belleisle or Quiberon Bay, Admiral Hawke`s Victory, silver medal, 1759, by James Kirk, to the order of the Society of Arts and Commerce, Britannia seated on a sea-horse, armed with trident and shield, rev figures of Night and Tempest shield Britain from an attacking France, 40mm (MI 706/441; MH 364). Very fine and scarce. Admiral Edward Hawke (1705-1781). His victory at Quiberon Bay prevented an invasion by the French. The medal was formerly (Hawkins) attributed to be the work of Thomas Pingo.

Football - LIVERPOOL (Stig Inge Bjornebye). A signed club shirt, by Adidas, size 42/44", numbered `20`, named `Bjornebye`, and with ink signature to upper right chest area, framed and glazed in a double-sided frame, overall 75cm x 64cm. Note: Stig Inge Bjornebye (B.1969) was a Norwegian left-back who played for Strommen (1987-88), Kongsvinger (1989-92), Rosenborg (1992), Liverpool (1992-2000), and Blackburn Rovers (2000-03), before a training ground accident brought his playing career to a premature end. He was part of the Liverpool team that won the League (Coca-Cola) Cup in 1994-95, and picked up a second winner`s medal when Blackburn triumphed in the League (Worthington) Cup in 2001-02.
