A Louis XV / XVI Transition period marquetry bonheur du jour, 18th century, with a three quarter galleried top, over two small cabinet doors, with a void between, over a writing surface and single drawer, on cabriole legs united by a platform, the whole with decorative marquetry, including vases, books and other household objects, 95cm high, 63cm wide Period from 1.1.22 to 31.12.22 The exporter of the product covered by this document GB857798153000 declares that, except where otherwise clearly idicated these products are of French origin. EXW Watlington HS Code 970600 Weight approx 50KgsCondition reportThe general condition of this compact and attractive Bonheur du Jour is good. There is very slight worm damage to the base of the shelf. It looks long ago dealt with and does not compromise the piece. The main drawer may need a slight adjustment to regularly run smoothly. The mounts are all present and in good condition. There is some cracking to the ‘writing’ surface of the top. (See image) Legs are sound. Please note the two cabinets are currently locked. We do not have a key, but in my experience they are generally easy to open with a good locksmith. We do have a box of assorted old keys on site and will attempt to open them. One small piece of marquetry ‘bottle’ is missing on the top left corner
A large George III provincial oak linen cupboard, mid 18th century, with a dentil cornice over three panelled hanging cupboard doors, the central door opening to reveal an arrangement of small drawers and a cupboard, over a single short drawer, the base with dummy drawers over two drawers on stile feet, 200cm high, 161cm wideCondition reportThis is a large and heavy but attractive piece overall. It comes into three sections for moving. The dentil cornice is complete and fits. The base appears to have its original handles, I can see no obvious signs of a change and generally they are in good condition. The top left handle needs slightly adjusting to stop is falling out (easy fix) The small single drawer has had the lock removed. The interior is all later lined with material. So I can't see the framed construction, but externally it appears sound with no apparent signs of worm damage. Colour is a good dark oak patina, but as it has stood in the same Scottish Dower house for some years it needs a good clean and polish! The drawers all slide pretty cleanly. There are some minor marks and scuffs to the patina as you would expect for something of this age. The cabinet doors have modern catches to hold them close. The left side panels do have some ancient splits, but these do not detract in my opinion.

An 18th Century Oak Longcase Clock by John Clarke of Frome, the 12ins square brass dial with added arch, the chapter ring with Roman and Arabic numerals, subsidiary seconds dial and date aperture, to the eight day two train movement, in plain oak case with scroll pediment and rectangular trunk door, 85ins highCondition ReportExternally the case to the clock has had some refreshment over the years. The finials appear to be a later addition as does the mount for the top finial at the head of the case. Likewise the case shows some signs of repair to the veneer finish and re-finishing in general. The dial itself appears original, however it is very dirty but the baton numerals are clear and concise. The hands appear original and the gilded parts to the perimeter are intact and fresh. The centre of the dial itself has some speckled markings which may or may not clean off. Internally the weights are present but the stringing appears to be incorrect and non-original. The glass to the cabinet is in good condition showing no obvious signs of cracks or chips. However the front door does have a significant crack at the 11 o'clock position and the 2 o'clock position and appears to have had some previous repair. The mechanism appears intact but the clock has not been tested.
