Signed by Dolbear in dark fountain pen ink to the lower photographer's mount; Douglass Ottinger (     -     ) American Captain with the United States Revenue Marine, credited as the inventor of the Life Car. Vintage signed sepia cabinet photograph of Ottinger in a half length pose wearing an official overcoat. Photograph by W. A. Morand of Erie, Pennsylvania and bearing his imprint to the lower mount. Signed by Ottinger with his name alone in fountain pen ink at the head of a printed biography to the verso. With a couple of pencil and ink annotations in another hand to the upper edge of the verso. Signed 8vo card `Hugenberg´, in black ink,beneath a small printed photograph of Hugenberg affixed to the card, the image showing him in a head and shoulders pose. Dated in Berlin, 7th February 1933. The image depicting Tsar Alexander III in a half length pose, wearing his military uniform, c.1890. To the verso bearing the cabinet photographers printed references from Saint Petersburg, in Cyrillic. Cabinet photographs of Alexander III are rare and desirable. Very small overall age wear. FEODOROVNA ALEXANDRA: (1872-1918) Alix of Hesse. Empress Consort of Russia 1894-1917, wife of Tsar Nicholas II. The last Tsarina of Russia, known for her notorious friendship with the Russian mystic Rasputin. A good 4 x 6.5 cabinet photograph of the Empress, photograph by Pasetti in St. Petersburg, with two annotations in her hand, most probably addressed to the photographer, indicating the changes she expects on this photograph. At the base of the image, to the white lower border and beneath her printed name in Cyrillic, Alexandra Feodorovna annotates `à refaire´ in French, (''to redo''), and to the upper left corner she adds `2 Col´. To the upper left corner, in another hand, annotated `Enlevez l´ombre´, (''take off the shadow''). Bearing to the verso the A. Pasetti printed logo, including a list of Royalty family members they are photographers of, such as the Saxe Meiningen court of the Queen of Greece, Grand Dukes and Grand Duchesses, etc.. VG  £1200-1800

Metternich refers to Napoleon  METTERNICH PRINCE KLEMENS VON: (1773-1859) Politician and Statesman, one of the most important diplomats of his era. Austrian Empire's Foreign Minister and Chancellor 1821-48. An interesting content A.L.S., `Metternich´, 4to, Vienna, 11th April 1853, in German. The letter bears an attractive blind embossed monogramme to the upper right corner. Metternich states in part `The files have to be stored in the cabinet at Konigswart…with the medals and coins, also stored there, which were found in the Cannes monument, the place where Napoleon landed in France after his break from Elba.´ With blank integral leaf. Very small overall staining, otherwise VG  £250-350

The attractive studio self-portrait sepia image (Circa 1863) showing Nadar in the basket of a balloon. Nadar was often referred to as “Le Photographe Volant” (“The Flying Photographer”). Signed and inscribed in bold black ink `To Jules Durnof, my comrade ascending the Giant in Amsterdam & Lyon. Good souvenir, Nadar´ to the lower white border of the image. Durnof was Captain of of civil and military French balloonists. Also dated in his hand `4th February 1868´. VG  £1500-2000
