A folder containing a collection of correspondence from the Crimea War dated Sebastopol, 1854 from the Royal Horse Artillery Camp describing the harsh conditions for both men and horses. The letters are from a C de Gernon addressed to a member of the Ffarington family Isle of Wight. Some of the correspondence has Penny Black and Penny Red postage. Also included in the folder is various correspondence iniaited by the previous owner to the Royal Artillery Historical Trust and also transcripts of some of the letters. (displayed in cabinet) (1)
A hand stitched coarse linen sailors pouch containing two 18th century ship's journals hand written by William Baitson, a mid shipman on board The Ship John on a passage from Gibraltar towards Jamaica with entries dating from March 1774, a second 18th century ships log/journal for HMS Defence 1785 with entries dating from May 1875 through to January 1786, a collection of five letters from Principal Officers and Commissioners certifying Mr Baitsons performance as a mid shipman and then masters mate, two hand drawn sketches, a vellum bound notelet, etc together with a pen and ink hand drawn compass.
