A VICTORIAN CARVED ROSEWOOD SERPENTINE CHIFFONIER BY A BLAIN the mirror in rococo frame, the drawer to the frieze above a pair of doors mounted with Jennens & Bettridge papier mâché chinoiserie panels inlaid in mother of pearl and gilt flanked by boldly scrolled corbels, on skirted plinth, 144cm h; 56 x 119cm, drawer stamped A BLAIN LIVERPOOL, one of the papier mâché panels impressed JENNENS & BETTRIDGE A Blain is recorded as working in Liverpool, 1835-71. The workshop records are in Liverpool City Library. ++In good condition with some repolishing, the mirror and backboards to the mirror possibly replaced, the panels original, cleverly serpentine bent to fit the doors and undamaged. A well made cabinet and good example of the type
