AN EDWARDIAN "ADAM REVIVAL" MAHOGANY, SATINWOOD AND MARQUETRY CABINET, the upper section with a moulded cornice above twin glazed doors, the lower section with two conforming doors with neo-classical style vase marquetry, within satinwood borders, on short square tapering legs, late 19th/early 20th century, 84" high x 45" wide
•AMBROSE HEAL FOR HEAL & SON: AN OAK CIRCULAR DINING TABLE, the broad top with moulded border on four splayed square section legs with "X"-shaped stretcher, 30" high x 49" dia. See illustration This appears to be a variant of the popular "Number 9" dining table which was in production between 1908 and 1939. The standard version of the design which formed part of Heal's ground-breaking "simple cottage furniture" range appears to be identical with the exception of the attractive extended border on this example. See Heal, O. "Sir Ambrose Heal and The Heal Cabinet Factory", pg. 58 and pg.184. Provenance: Private collection. Purchased from Heals circa 1920 by the vendor's parents.
•ROBERT THOMPSON: A FREESTANDING OAK CORNER CABINET with twin panelled doors, each with ten panels with adzed surface, the cabinet with exposed hammered hinges and latch, the sides similarly panelled, on short octagonal legs with carved mouse to front leg, 59.5" high x 43" wide. See illustration According to family tradition this cupboard was the property of the vendor's mother-in-law - a wedding present which was purchased from the original Robert Thompson in 1936. The vendor's mother-in-law lived in Oswald Kirk at the time and her husband was a teacher at Ampleforth College where he fell in love with the Thompson work in the Abbey Church. He later joined the Royal Navy as an Instructor Lieutenant and was lost in the sinking of HMS Neptune in December 1941. Provenance: Private collection, Hampshire.
A 20th Century Oriental lacquer cabinet, the two central doors opening to reveal storage space, over a small drawer and hinged door opening to reveal further storage areas, with shaped apron and raised on short, cabriole supports. The entirety decorated with gilded and painted scenes of birds amidst flowers. 79cm wide.
