ATTRIBUTED TO GILLOWS OF LANCASTER: A GEORGE III MAHOGANY SECRETAIRE CABINET, the upper section with a scrolling cornice above a central glazed door with arched glazing bars enclosing a shelved interior, flanked by shelved cupboards, the lower section with a broad secretaire drawer enclosing a fitted interior with short drawers, central cupboard and pigeon holes, above a further three long graduated drawers with brass handles, on splayed bracket feet, 89" high x 45" wide. See illustration. Provenance: The Barton Family, Wharton Grange, Carnforth, Lancaster, and thence by descent.
An early 20th century cabinet containing a large collection of vintage and modern playing cards including Waddingtons Art Deco cards, Austin Waddington cards (still sealed), Tournier playing cards, a double boxed set of Goodalls cards decorated with dogs by Cecil Aldin, Players cards, Waddingtons Beautiful Britain, etc.
An early 19th century English hand painted gilt heightened rounded rectangular small tray, the central panel decorated with birds eggs within a nest and floral sprays on a marble ledge, unmarked, length 28.5cm (af), and a hand painted 19th century cabinet plate, diameter 23cm (2). CONDITION REPORT: The tray has a crack running from the foot rim to rim, approx 5cm, some surface scratches and rubbing to gilding, te plate has rubbing to the gilding and surface scratches.
A mahogany and satinwood inlaid Art Nouveau display cabinet, the moulded cornice with copper and satinwood inlaid frieze against twin glazed doors with angled pierced swept supports to a base of two glazed doors enclosing velvet lined shelves centred with a stylised inlaid panel and raised on square section feet, width 122cm. CONDITION REPORT: Internal depth of upper section: 35cm. Internal depth of base section: 30cm. Some surface scratches but overall OK.
An unusual 19th century ebonised tortoiseshell detailed and brass mounted side cabinet, the brass three quarter baluster turned gallery above single glazed door with tortoiseshell and brass rosette border enclosing two shaped shelves to a plinth base and squat bun feet, width 78cm. CONDITION REPORT: External dimensions: height - 109cm; width - 77cm; depth - 35cm. Internal dimensions: variable to open. Splits to timber of gallery but basically OK.
