A George III mahogany supper table, the drop leaf top fitted with a drawer to the frieze above brass chicken wire sides with concave doors to one end, on square legs with brass drum castors, 72cm h; 67 x 98cm Related deisngs for this form of Supper Table were published by Thomas Chippendale in his Gentleman and Cabinet- Maker's Director, 1762, pl LIII. ++Small let in repair to the top; in good condition
A Scottish George IV rosewood tea table by James Mein of Kelso , with crossbanded, fold-over top, the printed trade label inscribed in ink with the name Jeffy(?) and number 16460, the breakfront frieze on turned pillar with crisply carved acanthus leaf knop and calyx on platform and beaded feet, 75cm h; 101 x 50cm James Mein (1759-1830), the son of Alexander Mein, upholsterer of Edinburgh and Kelso supplied furniture to the Duke of Roxburghe at Floors Castle and the Earl of Haddington at Mellerstein. As was his practice, his elegant grecian trade label numbered and inscribed with the abbreviated name of the journeyman cabinet maker is also found on a mahogany chest of drawers at the latter house. See the article Scotch Chests by David Jones, Regional Furniture Vol II 1988, p40 & figs 7 & 8. ++The top with a few old scratches and minor shrinkage cracks in the lip, the interior lacking one section of the lining boards, some old worm damage in the platform
A set of Regency quartetto tables attributed to Gillows, each with a rectangular top of maple, bird's eye maple or rosewood, the smallest table inlaid for chess in rosewood and satinwood and banded in differing combinations of birch or burr birch, on rosewood turned baluster spindle legs with stretchers, 74cm h; 60 x 40cm (4) A similar set of tables at Leighton House, Lancashire, is likely to have been supplied by Gillows circa 1810. Leighton House was bought by Richard Gillow in 1822 from his cousin, Thomas Worsick. See Edwards (R) & M Jourdain, Georgian Cabinet-Makers, revised edition, 1955, p221, fig 193. ++Much accretion of dust and grime over time. The odd minor structural repair but free from replacements or repolishing and of particularly finely preserved deep colour/patina

A Country House library bookcase, early 19th century, mahogany, satinwood and marquetry, the ball moulded stepped cornice and scrolling leaf marquetry inlaid frieze over four rectangular glazed cabinet doors with outer chequered ebony stringing and double arched glazing bars opening to reveal adjustable shelves, the centre section with deep double conch shell inlaid secretaire drawer front opening to reveal an arrangement of four short graduated centre drawers flanked by five pigeonholes over a long shallow drawer and long narrow pigeonhole with a single oval panel cabinet door to each end, the secretaire drawer over two urn and swag inlaid cabinet doors revealing two pull-out trays flanked by a crossbanded and marquetry inlaid cabinet door to each end depicting the arts, opening to reveal an arrangement of five graduated, mahogany fronted drawers fitted with brass, rectangular swing handles with hexagonal discs, raised on four short square tapering front Adam inspired feet, 255cm wide, 260cm high to the centre, 60cm deep to the centre. Provenance listed in the catalogue of the Riccall Hall sale, Yorkshire, lot number 686, the sale by order of the executers of the late Lord Danesfort, K. C., J. P., the sale, a three day sale, September 24th, 25th and 26th 1935, auctioneers Richardson and Trotter, York, the bookcase has a chalk inscription to the back 'From Riccall Hall, September 28th 1935', Lord Danesfort formally John George Butcher, Barron Danesfort (1853-1935), Lord Danesfort was captured by 'Spy, characterturist and portrait painter for Vanity Fair Sir Lesley Ward (1851-1922), a published watercolour in Vanity Fair, November 1901 of John George Butcher, Barron Danesfort, he was later noted in 1934 as a champion of the Southern Irish loyalist along with Lord William John Arthur Charles James Cavendish and Lord Edward Henry Carlson.The bookcase design draws influence from Chippendale, Hepplewhite and Adam and is most probably Irish from the first quarter of the 19th century.
