A 19th Century and later mahogany chemist's chest of six drawers, each drawer bearing label and with pressed glass knob handles CONDITION REPORTS Top with stained finish with surface scratches. Front and sides with blackened staining. Lettering with wear and stains. approx 38cm wide, 82cm high, 30cm deep. Drawers appear to be 19th Century, and a couple have splits to linings / bases. Main carcass and labels appear to be later. Drawer construction/carcass is in pine, with mahogany fronts. The two-section top has a stained finish. The cabinet generally appears in sound useable condition with drawers running freely. Top appears to be a stained/varnished mahogany. Please note amendment to catalogue description.
An early 19th century English porcelain cabinet cup and saucer. probably Rockingham, painted with exotic birds on branches within gilt rococo style shell bordered reserves, against a claret ground, each centred with a winged insect, the cup of flared fluted form with angular handle, 3in. (7.7cm.) high; together with an early 19th century coffee can with cobalt blue and gilt decoration, probably Coalport; a tea bowl and saucer with blue sprigged swags and gilded guilloche borders, with underglaze blue fish mark; and a Sevres style coffee cup and saucer. (7). * Provenance: Included in a 1949 inventory of porcelain bequeathed to Dr. John Alistair Burkhardt by his aunt, Miss Charlotte Mary Sandford of 27, The Little Boltons, South Kensington. The inventory was prepared by White Berry & Catford, Valuers, 28 Cadogan Place, SW1 and dated 3rd March 1949. Most of the pieces on this inventory are included in our auction catalogue (lots 15 to 49). An elegant 19th century French kingwood, floral marquetry and ormolu mounted lady`s vitrine table. in the Louis XV style, the vitrine section of three serpentine glazed doors, the arched centre surmounted by a 3in. high incuse sided platform with pierced gilt brass gallery and Rosa Verona marble inset, the back bearing a brass trade label, "Druce & Co. Upholsterers & Cabinet Makers, Baker Street, London. From The second hand Department.", the table with chequered floral marquetry top and ormolu edge, over a single secretaire drawer, the fall front with conforming chequered marquetry and central floral cartouche, the interior with inset leather and three dummy drawers, raised on slender cabriole supports with ormolu sabots, 36in. (91.5cm.) x 19in. (48.5cm.), 63in. (160cm.) high. * Listed on the 1914 inventory of Redenham House, Nr. Andover, Hants., by Frederick Ellen & Son, Andover as, "A handsome 3ft. rosewood display cabinet, inlaid marquetrie, fitted with drawer, the upper part glazed enclosed by 3 doors, the whole richly mounted chased ormolu, on cabriole legs". A late 19th century French ormolu mounted kingwood and parquetry table à écrire. the cross-banded top with chequerboard kingwood parquetry and moulded ormolu edge with rococo corner mounts to the serpentine sides, the single frieze drawer with conforming inlay and mounts matching those of the sides and back, bearing a brass trade label of "Druce & Co. Upholsterers & Cabinet Makers, Baker Street, London. From The second hand Department.", raised on ormolu mounted cabriole legs terminating in foliate sabots, 41½in. (105.5cm.) x 25in.
