Late 19th Century English Neo-classical satinwood marquetry and painted demi-lune commode. After the drawings by Robert and James Adam for the Countess of Derby’s dressing room at Derby House, Grosvenor Square, London - see Robert and James Adam “The Works in Architecture, Vol. II, pt.I, pl. VIII. This is a fine example of cabinet making in the style of the original commode thought to have been produced by Messrs. Ince & Mayhew for the Earl of Derby. The use of the exotic woods and the painted panel depicting the Diana with hounds and her attendants also the use of the finely carved rams heads indicate that this high quality workmanship may be associated with the like of Wright & Mansfield or Edwards & Roberts. Back panel stamped “Graham & Banks, 445 Oxford St.”, 167.5cm wide x 109cm high x 71cm deep
