pair of Flight, Barr and Barr cabinet cups and stands signed by Thomas Baxter, circa 1814-1816 with twin gilded handled and broad everted rims, each decorated with the famous Medieval romantic figures Heloise and Abelard, she holding a letter with one hand raised, he reading a letter, to the reverse of each a panel of flowers within jewelled borders and reserved on a blue ground with neoclassical ornament, a band of applied white pearls below the rims and around the well of the stands, Heloise's cup with lines from Alexander Pope's poem Heloise to Abelard, Abelard cup with lines from James Cawthorne's poem, impressed crown and FBB marks, printed and script marks referring to Coventry Street address, one also signed with the initials TB. NB - This shape of cabinet cup was particularly favoured by Thomas Baxter, who worked for Flight, Barr and Barr from 1814-16. Few signed examples from this period are known. The figure of Abelard may be a likeness of Baxter himself.
A 19th Century Meissen cabinet cup and saucer, the fluted cup with rustic cross handle and raised to sprue feet, decorated with applied flowers and foliage picked out in enamel colours with further insects and floral sprigs to the interior, together with a matched under plate, blue crossed sword mark, damaged.

Marbled paper endpapers, worn calf gilt, believed eighteenth century. [The dates in the manuscript are arranged in blocks of 21, each date separated by 28 years. In Thomas Joseph Moult’s work ‘Prophéties perpétuelles, très-curieuses et très certaines de Thomas-Joseph Moult’, the dates are also separated by 28 years, though in blocks of nine.]. A GEORGE II OAK BOOKCASE SECOND QUARTER 18TH CENTURY 193 cm high, 145cm wide, 38cm deep Condition Report: The oak is dark and has a good waxed patination. The glass is probably original - it is certainly not new glass and has some age, but it is hard to be certain if it is original. There are some signs of reputtying on the inside of the glazing bars which may indicate that the glazing is replaced but the glass panes have age. The main part of the cabinet is made in two sections, with a cut in the middle of each end panel and which runs through the centre of the central shelf. The end panels with four wedge-shaped butterfly inlaid pieces let in. The whole plinth section is a late replacement, but is probably early 20th century in date. There are patches in the doors around the handles. The backs of the doors with tack holes for fitting a fabric lining. In good useable condition. Y A FRENCH KINGWOOD AND PARQUETRY CABINET IN LOUIS XVI STYLE LATE 19TH CENTURY Of breakfront outline, gilt metal mounted throughout, the marble top above a pair of cabinet doors 109cm high, 127cm wide, 47cm deepProvenance: From a private collection in Northamptonshire Condition Report: Marble top appears original, there are small lug holes where the corresponding pegs would fit to secure the top when on - the condition report was completed just after arrival at Donnington so good images of the underside of the marble are available - these reveal old splits and cracks and some signs of repair with filler and adhesive Dirt and discolouration to the gilt metal mountsOne small piece of moulded timber to one side is detached but present and will require some repair, other small elements missing, also some signs of filled repair to some parquetry Overall solid and stable when standing, however leg loose on moving, this may require some glue to securely fix in place for full security going forward The top drawer is blind, inside was a key - this is presumably for the cabinet doors but the lock did not unlock at time of report - some oil may be required (though Dreweatts make no guarantees this will solve the problem)Please see additional images for visual reference to condition Condition Report Disclaimer
