A rare American Wheeler & Wilson treadle sewing machine, in a Victorian mahogany cabinet, circa 1850, the machine plate marked number 274218, with patents, the hinged lid opening to reveal a fixed gilt decorated sewing machine, the base with a wheel and treadle, 90cm high, 63cm wide. Wheeler and Wilson were incorporated into the Singer company later in the century. A similar example is in the Powerhouse museum in Melbourne, Australia.While this may be an unusual item, the cabinet would also make a useful base for a portrait bust or similar.
