AMBROSE HEAL FOR HEAL & SON: AN OAK CIRCULAR DINING TABLE, the broad top with moulded border on four splayed square section legs with 'X' shaped stretcher, 30" high x 49" dia. See illustration. This appears to a variant of the popular 'No. 9' dining table which was in production between 1908 and 1939. The standard version of the design which formed part of Heals ground breaking 'Simple Cottage Furniture' range appears to be identical with the exception of the attractive extended border on this example. See Heal, O. 'Sir Ambrose Heal and the Heal Cabinet Factory' p58 and p184. Provenance: Private collection. Purchased from Heals c 1920 by the vendors parents.

AMBROSE HEAL FOR HEAL & SON: A LIGHT OAK 'TOY' OR 'LINEN' CUPBOARD, the rectangular top with projecting stiles, above twin panelled doors with a turned knob handle enclosing a shelved interior, on square legs, with a label to the interior for "Heal & Sons, London", 40.75" high x 42.5" wide. See illustration. This is cupboard model '348' which was introduced in 1911. Available until 1929, some 250 examples of this cupboard were sold. Interestingly it was the first design to feature stiles that projected above the top of the cupboard, a design detail that would be re-used on many occasions. See Heal, O. 'Sir Ambrose Heal and the Heal Cabinet Factory' pp182 - 183.
AMBROSE HEAL FOR HEAL & SON: A PAIR OF BEDROOM CHAIRS from the "Fine Feathers" suite, with arched top rails above shaped splats with pierced heart decoration, above rush seats with tapering front legs, 42" high. See illustration. The 'Fine Feathers' Suite' of bedroom furniture is amongst the most important of all Ambrose Heal's designs. Introduced in 1898 alongside three other bedroom suites, '246' with pewter inlay and the motto adorning the cornice is one of Heal's most instantly recognisable designs. Pairs of chairs seem to have been the most popular part of this rare suite, no doubt due to practical considerations, O. Heal records 82 pairs of chairs being sold between 1900 and 1907. See Heal, O. 'Sir Ambrose Heal and the Heal Cabinet Factory' p155. See footnote to lot 794. Provenance: Private collection Somerset.
