William and Daniel Downey opened their studio in 1863 and could boast many members of the Royal family among their sitters.

The front panels are like a burr-wood, whilst the sides are plain, there are only brass mounts to the fronts and the corners, all the front panels have slight warps and splits, which should be visible from the photographs, all the interiors are papered with Korean style newspaper (?), overall: in an original condition, the top is very dusty as you would expect from a private client, it is possible some of the back boards have been replaced at some point, the bracket carvings are knocked, damaged and broke, and it sits on sledge type feet which might be later, 46.5 cm deep x 163 cm high Date is in all probability late 19th/early 20th century

Fall front inside, velvet pad worn, looks original, some ink marks, and the pad is lifting in bottom right hand corner.
