According to Hepplewhite they ``Are much used in spacious dining rooms, where the last-described kind of sideboards are chosen; at the end of which they are placed. One pedestal serves as a plate warmer, being provided with racks and a stand for a heater; and is lined with strong tin; the other pedestal is used as a pot cupboard. / The vases may be used to hold water for the use of the butler, or iced water for drinking, which is inclosed (sic) in an inner partition, the ice surrounding it; or may be used as knife-cases.`` (Third edition, 1794, p.7, plates 35 and 36). SÈVRES Paire de bustes en biscuit de porcelaine dure représentant le Roi Louis XVI et la Reine Marie-Antoinette sur des socles carrés. Modèle de Louis-Simon Boizot. XVIIIe siècle, vers 1785. Ils sont présentés sur des socles en bois sculpté et doré à cannelure et feuilles d`eau. (Éclats et coups de feu). HAUT. DU ROI : 37 cm - HAUT. DE LA REINE : 39,5 cm - HAUT. DES SOCLES : 9,5 cm Nos bustes du Roi et de la Reine sont modelés par Louis-Simon Boizot en 1785. En juillet 1785, le comte d`Angiviller, directeur général des Batiments, demande à la manufacture de Sèvres " d`exécuter en Sculpture de Pate forte le Buste du Roy Ouvrage de M. Boizot ". Le buste de la Reine est réalisé sans doute à partir d`août 1785. Ces bustes furent produits en deux grandeurs, l`une de grandeur nature, très probablement vendue au prix de 600 livres chaque, la deuxième grandeur vendue au prix de 120 livres puis 96 livres à partir de 1787. Entre le 20 décembre 1785 et le 31 décembre 1791, dix-sept bustes du Roi et quinze bustes de la Reine sont mentionnés dans les registres des ventes de la manufacture, certains offerts comme cadeau diplomatique notamment à l`archiduc Ferdinand d`Autriche, le duc de Saxe-Teschen ou encore aux ambassadeurs du sultan Tipoo-Saïb. Une des paires offertes à ces derniers est aujourd`hui conservée au Victoria and Albert Museum de Londres. Le Roi Louis XVI achète dans la seconde moitié de l`année 1788 2 Bustes, le Roi et la Reine, pour la somme de 96 livres. 2 bustes représentant Louis XVI et la Reine sur leurs pieds de bois sculptés et doré sont mentionnés sur la cheminée dans le Cabinet de la Pendule à Versailles dans l`inventaire dressé en 1792 et prisés alors 300 livres chaque. Plusieurs exemplaires sont conservés dans des collections publiques et privées : deux bustes du Roi et de la Reine au Château de Versailles, une paire à la Cité de la Céramique de Sèvres, une paire au château de Dalmeny (Ecosse), une paire sur des socles à fond bleu dans les collections Royales anglaises (Sir Geoffrey de Bellaigue, French Porcelain in the Collection of Her Majesty the Queen, 2009, vol. III, n° 307-308, pp. 1084-1087), deux bustes de Louis XVI sont au Fogg Art Museum de Cambridge, Massachusset et au musée de l`Ermitage à Saint-Pétersbourg. Une paire provenant des collections de la Reine Juliana de Hollande est récemment passée en vente publique (Sotheby`s, Amsterdam, 14-17 mars 2011, lot 528). Un buste du Roi Louis XVI figurait dans la vente de la collection Weinberg (Sotheby`s, New York, 10-11 novembre 2006) et un buste de la Reine s`est également vendu à New York en 2006 (Sotheby`s, 9 novembre 2006, lot 122).

CABINET en bois noirci ouvrant à deux portes. Les portes et les côtés sont plaqués en relief de parties de nacre de différents types et différentes couleurs formant des réserves rocailles dans lesquelles on peut voir des scènes mythologiques. La partie supérieure de forme évasée s`ouvre avec sa serrure d`époque. Les deux portes s`ouvrent sur un ensemble de sept tiroirs et une porte centrale encadrée de guillochis et plaqués d`écailles disposées sur quatre rangs. Les charnières et la platine de la serrure des portes sont finement gravées de motifs de rinceaux feuillagés. Au centre de la porte une plaque ajourée et ciselée représente des armoiries. Allemagne, XVIIe siècle. (Un bouton de tiroir changé, accidents, manques décollage et fends sur l`ensemble, sur l`extérieur certaines parties en haut relief sont manquantes). HAUT. 43 cm - LARG. 40 cm - PROF. 26 cm

CABINET en ébène, placage d`ébène, bois noirci et bois peint. Il ouvre à un tiroir en ceinture et à deux vantaux moulurés découvrant neuf tiroirs et une petite porte à colonnes ornées d`écaille brune avec angelots, rinceaux, colonnes en balustre en argent. La petite porte découvre un théâtre à cinq côtés orné de colonnettes entourant des miroirs avec un sol composé d`un damier noir et blanc en ivoire et ébène. Le fronton à doucine ouvre par un abattant. Un large tiroir en partie basse. Le piètement à décor de deux masques de lion à six pieds tournés en balustre réunis par des barres d`entretoise rectangulaires en ceinture portées par des pieds boules. L’intérieur des portes découvre treize panneaux de l’école anversoise, vers 1620, entourage de Jasper van der LAMEN : L`enlèvement d`Europe Enée fuyant Troie Cecrops découvert par les filles d`Erichtonios Latone et les paysans de Lycie Atalante et Méléagre La chute d`Icare Vénus et Adonis La déification d`Enée Vertumne et Pomone (Fentes et petits manques). HAUT. 153,5 cm - LARG. 98 cm - PROF. 45 cm XVIIe siècle, le piétement du XIXe siècle. Les panneaux peints ont été expertisés par le Cabinet Turquin.
