A fascinating and charming rare believed 18th century (mid-1700's) handwritten recipe book. Believed to be from the grandmother of a Mrs Alfred Essex of 53 Oakley Square, London. The vellum bound manuscript features hundreds of handwritten recipes, cures and related. To include; ' Cold Cream ,' 'To make Raspberry Jam,' 'To make the pickle', 'To make Orange Wine,' 'For a Consumption,' 'a recipe for a cough,' ' To make Daffeys Elixer,' 'For the Rheumation ,' 'a salve for a green wound,' 'To Preserve Damson's for pies,' and many other types of recipe. The manuscript, totalling some 269 handwritten pages makes for some fascinating reading. Many of the entries are followed by the name particular lady who gave her the recipe. Of particular interest is a recipe titled 'To make Custard - Mrs Bird's Way ,' which appears to have caused some fascination with a previous owner who had articles published attempting to work out if the was THE 'Mrs Bird' of Birds Custard (but it is not believed the two are related). Some paperwork relating to this is included within the lot. Included with 18th century book is a similar, but smaller, 19th century recipe / note book compiled by Mrs Alfred Essex of 53 Oakley Square, London. To the front pages of book are laid in three cabinet photographs of Mrs Essex, and, in her hand is written her address and the year '1863.' The book, lovingly, made, comes with a handwritten contents section to the start and features recipes for: 'Blancmange ,' 'Apple Jelly,' 'Milk Cake Pudding,' 'to pickle tomatoes' 'Mincemeat,' etc. The rear of the book has been used by a later hand (some pages dated 1918), likely by another family member, to add in some more recipes. This recipe book is accompanied by a period photograph folio containing the cabinet photographs of Alfred & Mrs Alfred Essex. A rare and unique set of documents, all relating to the same family. Note: from the large Fisher / Blomfield family archive consigned to this sale. The collection comprises of items from Francis ' FMB ' Marion Bates Fisher (a famous Edwardian Tennis Player ) and features items from the lives of his entire family (most notably that of his eldest daughter Esther Fisher who went on to become an international pianist, his other daughter was Lady Esther Frances Barron and his youngest daughter Alice Blomfield (nee Fisher) whose husband - Siegfried Blomfield - was a noted soldier during WWII and whose daughter (Juliet Blomfield) went on to become a ballet dancer). The family owned many properties both in the UK and New Zealand, and were extremely well travelled. Their friends and acquaintances were some of the most notable characters of our time - Ernest Shackleton , Winston Churchill , Maxine Elliott , Henry Wadsworth Longfellow , John Singer Sargent but to name a few. A large collection of late 19th and early 20th century cabinet photographs & Carte De Visites relating to Francis Marion Bates Fisher (FMB Fisher ) International Tennis player and member of Parliament for New Zealand . The cabinet photographs form a large record of Fisher's ancestry and family history. Some of the photographs are annotated, many are not. A large portion of the images relate to his family during the Boer War years (in which Fisher served as a captain), and familiar friends. Given the wealth of the family and the circles in which they moved, it is highly likely that several of these images relate to important historical figures (most likely relating to New Zealand). A Victorian mahogany bookcase cabinet CONDITION REPORTS Numerous surface scratches, chips, dents throughout. There are pieces of the veneer missing in several areas, discolouration and staining in places and accretions. A Mintons blue Aesthetic design charger, decorated in the Japanese taste with panels of birds, bamboo and butterflies on a turquoise ground, with impressed marks to the base, together with two Limoges blush ware decorated cabinet plates with gilt highlights, a Limoges square trinket dish marked "1733" to base and a sang de boeuf ground jug, the handle formed as a dragon CONDITION REPORTS The Mintons aesthetic blue charger has numerous surface scratches, crazing, accretions and build up of dirt. There is also on the base a chip, there is also wear on the edges of the plate. General wear and tear commensurate with age. The Limoge square trinket dish has numerous surface scratches, the gilt is worn. There is also repair on one side of the dish, which has been glued back together. See pictures for details. There is large crack to one corner the side of the dish which has been repaird as well. The two Limoge blush ware plates show numerous surface scratches, a lot of wear to the gilt on one of the dishes and wear to the gilt on the other. Build up of dirt and accretions on both plates. The sang de boeuf ground jug has numerous surface scratches, small chip to the base, the handle formed as a dragon has a crack going from just behind the top of the foreleg, all the way down to the back of the hind leg, there is also a crack across the spine of the draggon and also a crack to the base of the tail that goes around. See photos for details. All items show general wear and tear commensurate with age. The height of the sang de boeuf is 26cms approximately, the diameter of the Mintons blue charger is 39.5 cms approximately, the height of the charger is approximately 4.5cms. The Limoges square trinket dish is 13cms in diameter approximately. The limoges plates are both approximately 21.5cms.
A 19th Century mahogany and satin wood banded and hand painted serpentine fronted corner display cabinet in the Adam Revival taste with ogee moulded pediment, the curved single glaze door enclosing three shelves with glazed sides above a single drawer and shaped apron raised on swept legs CONDITION REPORTS Areas of the wood are discoloured and faded. Numerous small dents and surface scratches throughout. There is some loss of paint to the painted flower decoration in numerous areas. The velvet inside the cabinet is faded and discoloured and there are areas of loss. To the base there are some splits in the veneer. There is also a split in the wood between the cornice and the main body of the cabinet. General wear and trar commensurate with age and use. On the left hand side of the cornice there is also an area of loss in the banding and marquetry - see images for details.

A Continental cabinet cup with painted decoration in the manner of Teniers of a girl reading a book with two onlookers, heavy gilt highlights and indistinct mark to base in the manner of Sèvres CONDITION REPORTS Large areas of loss, wear and fading to the gilt work both on the inside and outside of the cup and on the handle. Chip to the underside of the flared rim. Light surface scratches etc. General signs of wear and tear conducive with age and use. See pictures for details.
A collection of eight various miniature cabinet cups to include two Coalport, one with cobalt blue ground and gilt decoration, marked "T.131" and one with pink ground and gilt decoration, marked "A.5844", together with another with blue printed decoration and gilt highlights, marked "2436", two further Coalport cabinet cups and saucers with a gilt base and turquoise dotted jewelled decoration marked to base "T2242", two Royal Worcester cabinet cups and saucers in cobalt blue with gilt decoration and gilt-washed interiors, bearing puce mark to base and another Coalport mug and non-matching saucer CONDITION REPORTS All cups and saucers show light surface scratches. Some fading to the gilt work on some. Some scratches to the enamal on others. See photos for details. General wear and tear commensurate with age and use.

Edward Barnsley (1900-1987) Side cabinet inlaid Australian blackbean bowed front, fitted two drawers over sliding tambour doors on square tapering feet stamped maker's mark 85.5cm high, 121.5cm across, 54.7cm deep. Provenance: From the Collection of W.G. Jenkins, founder and Chairman of the Edward Barnsley Trust.
*Alliott Verdon Roe (1877-1958) (later Sir). An August 1899 dated cabinet card featuring the racing cyclist aged 22 after returning from Canada and before he founded A.V. Roe Aircraft Co., with his brother, Humphrey in 1910. The card has been signed in ink, 'Cycling Yours - Alliott V. Roe - Aug 99'. The photographic studio is A. Walmsley of Pool Street, St Georges Road, Bolton, written in gilt at the base of the card. In excellent condition. Included is a poor photograph of children with cross-framed Safety Bicycles. (2)
*Timberlake & Co. Ltd. An intriguing album of monochrome photographs, both in Carte de Visite and the larger Cabinet Card form, illustrating solid-tyred bicycles, tricycles and riders. Sourced from a distant family member, some of the images are recognisable as machines promoted by H. J. Timberlake of 13 Albert Street, Maidenhead and other sites, to include Tunbridge Wells. He initiated several inventions, including a front wheel roller brake operated by a twisting handlebar. The Timberlake 'Four-in-Hand' is illustrated as is a geared front-driver campaigned by Timberlake Jnr (as illustrated, and seen seated on the four-in-hand), together with an interesting design of cross-frame, a late 1890s bicycle with an open head and a child's horse-drawn carriage. Other images include a number of Ordinaries, a Singer Xtraordinary, a C.M.C. 'Swift' Solid-Tyred bicycle and other diamond and cross framed models, cycling club events, competition cyclists and children on tricycles. 63 photographs of one or more tricycles and bicycles, and several of other family portraits, all held in a double-opening Victorian album with spring locking clips. The ensemble being in very good condition, albeit some photographs have faded. and the outer cover rubbed, and hinges creased. (1)
A set of eleven Spode series Stafford Flowers cabinet plates 'Iris and Sphaerolobum' pattern, diameter 28cm (second quality) and a set of six wine glasses (17). CONDITION REPORT: All plates ring true, no crazing visible, all with surface scratches and areas where gilt and floral decoration have been rubbed.
A late 19th century Bavarian Black Forest collectors' cabinet, the broken swan neck pediment surmounted by a pair of game birds above two doors with deep relief carved floral decoration revealing twelve carved short drawers, two further drawers to the lower section, the base with single drawer above two further carved doors to a plinth, width 75cm.
