Frans FRANCKEN II, dit le jeune (Attribué à) (Anvers 1581-1642) « Les esclaves des fureurs de l’Amour, ou Triomphe de l’Amour » Huile sur panneau de chêne parqueté (légère fente au milieu du panneau) 67 x 96 cm Le plus célèbre de la famille des peintres flamands, Frans Francken II dit le Jeune, fut un peintre extrèmement renommé de son vivant. Il réalisa des retables mais c’est essentiellement pour ses petits tableaux de cabinet qu’il fut le plus reconnu. Il existe plusieurs versions de cette composition, dont une copie est conservée au Musée des Beaux Arts de Caen. Le tableau original serait passé en vente à Paris en 1969. Selon les recherches de la spécialiste de l’artiste, Ursula Härting, il aurait été signalé dans la succession d’Antoinette Wiael à Anvers en 1627 ce qui permettrait de le dater antérieurement. Une autre version est signalée dans une collection à Bruxelles en 1983 (reproduit page 352 sous le n° 378 du catalogue d’Ursula Härting, « Frans Francken II, 1581 – 1642 », Hildesheim, New York, 1983). Il présente plusieurs variantes avec notre tableau, notamment au niveau des éléments de décors architecturaux et du paysage, mais on retrouve une composition très similaire et la plupart des personnages sont présents dans les deux versions.
