[Awarded the Victoria Cross for [during the Anglo-Zulu War, at the Battle of Isandlwana, in which he made efforts to save the Queen's Colour of his regiment along with Lieutenant Melvill. They were perused by Zulu warriors and were killed with the Queen's colours being lost and carried downstream.]
