A Regency mahogany and crossbanded sofa table, circa 1820, in the manner of Gillows, with gilt brass cornucopia ring handles and lyre-shaped spindle-filled end supports, 72cm high, 150cm wide, 70cm deep. Gillows illustrate similar 'spindle end' tables in their estimate sketch book of 1818; see Geoffrey Wills, Craftsmen and Cabinet-Makers of Classic English Furnture, p.117, figs. 108-9. A Sheraton style mahogany and satinwood banded serpentine cabinet, late 20th century, the hinged top and cupboard doors opening to reveal shelved interior over frieze drawer upon splayed bracket supports, 82 x 67 x 48 cm, together with a reproduction mahogany drop leaf pedestal dining table and a mahogany side table, (3).
A Liberty's style oak two door wall cabinet, late 19th century, together with an oak book stand, an oak writing desk of small proportions, a pair of provincial oak stools, an oak gateleg corner table, a side chair upholstered in peacock feather fabric and a provincial oak dining chair, (8). Provenance: From the estate of Marit Allen, Journalist, Editor, Costume Designer. First working as fashion assistant on Queen magazine in 1961 and then moving to Vogue in 1964 and later on becoming fashion editor of vogue, Marit Allen is widely dedicated with championing young fashion designers and was always well admired in the industry. In 1973 when the director Nicolas Roeg asked her to design the costumes for Julie Christie in the film 'Don't Look Now' Allen soon established herself as a prolific costumier and she continued to work right up to her death. She worked on about 40 films and was nominated for a Bafta and two Emmy awards.
