A RARE CABINET COLLECTION OF MINERALS CIRCA 1810-1860, including minerals probably collected by Wilhelm Karl Ritter von Haidinger (1795-1871) and Teodoro Monticelli (1759-1845)It is a possibility that the agate specimens are from Matthew Forster Heddle (1828-1897)Approximately 84 specimens in total. Cabinet measures 91cm x 61cm There are thirteen Victorian labels dating as early as 1833. Many are in different languages and have been translated in house. From left to right: 1. Cantrinite from Mount Ilmen, Urals, Russia. Label verso reads 'Bought in Berlin, 1833'. 2. Marmonero Venato - black marble with a red example also. Old collection number to top left of label. 3. Carbonate of Iron from an unknown location4. Lava with crystals from Cancarone in Bascillata, Italy. Possibly from Mount Vulture.5. Porta Santa Schietta marble, old collection number top left. 6. Tellur silver from Altai. Verso of label reads 'Bought in Berlin 1833'7. Felsobanya from Hungary. Verso of label reads 'Haidinger, Vienna 1846'. The mineral was first described in 1853 by Kengott, but it is in fact known that it was observed earlier in the 1840's in the collection of the Imperial and royal Chamber of Mining, Vienna by Haidinger ((1795-1871). The date on the reverse of this label would seem to confirm this.8. Wollastonite from Capo Di Bove archeological site in Rome, Italy. Top right label reads 'Copland'. Possibly Patrick Copland 1748-1822?9. Plenasti verdi - green pleonaste. Verso of label reads 'Monticelli, Naples 1836', referring to Teodoro Monticelli (1759-1845) Italian geologist and astronomer.10. Alabastro d'orte fiorito11. Caen stone, often used for building cathedrals. 12. Melilite from Capo Di Bove, Rome, Italy. Verso of label reads 'Spada 1833'. 13. Amphigene, gigantic crystals found in the extinct volcanoes of Naples. Probably near Vesuvius. Also labelled for 'Copland' top right.
A RARE CABINET COLLECTION OF MINERALS CIRCA 1810-1860, including labels for some very important names such as Matthew Forster Heddle (1828-1897), Robert Allan (1806-1863) and Gustav Rose (1798-1873), Dr Edward Turner (1796-1837) and a Mr Stewart 1850. Approximately 64 specimens in total. Cabinets measure 91cm x 61cm There are twelve Victorian labels dating as early as 1826: 1. Calc Spar from the Cairnsmore lead mine in Galloway - Mr Stewart 1850 2. Hyalite from Dr Edward Turner (1796-1837) It is known the Edward Turner met and studied with Wilhelm Haidinger (1795-1871)3. Epidote Manganese from Sardinia 4. Aragonite from Bilina, Bohemia 5. Petalite from Uton in Sweden - Robert Allan 1806-1963 Scottish mineralogist. Went on expeditions with fellow mineralogist Wilhelm Haidinger (1795-1871) for which there is a label in the next lot.6. 'A new mineral discovered in 1850 upwards of 2800 feet down in the Sampson Mine. Analysis at Claustal...Very few specimens got at the time and none since' Verso 'Andreasberg, Harz' and clearly signed 'Heddle' at the bottom. This could possibly be a specimen collected by Scottish Mineralogist Matthew Forster Heddle himself (1828-1897)7. Yenite, Elba. To verso - Bought by 'Rentland'? 8. Heulandite in large and fine crystals, Iceland. Verso reads 'Exchanged with Rose in 18--, Valued at £1.1. This is most probably referring to Gustav Rose (1798-1873) German mineralogist and President of the German Geological Society from 1863-1873.9. Silver Antimony, Andreasberg, Harz. 10. Copper Nickel with Rammelsbergite, verso label reads reads 'Heddle'. Possibly collected by Matthew Forster Heddle.11. Rose coloured calc spas coloured by cobalt from Schneeberg (Austrian Alps). 12. Corindon Rouge du Tibet, Indes Orientales. Verso label reads 'Bought in Paris, 1826'

A hinged front opening wood and glass display case for diecast models or figures. locking hooks are on the right hand side, hinge on the left. 2 brass fixings for wall hanging are attached at the top rear. Item appears in Excellent condition and appears to have no makers mark. Dimensions are: 76cm x 51cm x 10cm (This does not constitute a guarantee).

A lacquered, painted and gilt wooden marriage cabinet,19th century and later, Chinese, the panelled doors painted with figures and pagodas, 91cm wide 53cm deep123cm highCondition ReportRepair and restoration throughout, including replaced mother of pearl and repainting. A chip to the front-right corner. Other small chips, knocks and losses. Some rubbing to paint and gilt. A small amount of moisture damage to the reverse. Drawers functional, however one door sticks a little when closing. Joints generally tight and sound. Some knocks and wear to interior. Appears in fair restored condition and is ready for use. Interior shelf is removable and it's removal makes no impact on the structural integrity of the whole piece.
