Lot 145

CABINET ouvrant par deux portes. Il est en placage dÂ’ébène et bois noirci et ses deux vantaux découvrent un ensemble de onze tiroirs sur quatre rangs encadrant une porte centrale. LÂ’extérieur des portes et les deux côtés ornés de poignées de fer, sont garnis de panneaux dÂ’os gravés représentant des personnages mythologiques. En partie basse un tiroir occupe toute la largeur, lÂ’intérieur des vantaux est orné de motifs architectoniques comme le sont les façades des tiroirs avec des plaques gravées de motifs de fleurs, de vases fleuris et de personnages à lÂ’intérieur des portes. La porte centrale est munie dÂ’une serrure avec sa clé ainsi que le vantail de droite. Tous ces décors sont inspirés du XVIIe?siècle mais réalisés au XIXe?siècle. (Quelques petits accidents et manques dont certains boutons). HAUT. 44,5?cm - LARG. 48,5?cm - PROF. 36,5?cm

Houbigant (avec la participation du dessinateur Hippolyte Bellangé), Paris, 1819, eau-forte, couleurs au pinceau, 32/32 cartes, carte dÂ’introduction ""CARTES Récréatives 1819 "" et carte explicative recto-verso, ens. fr. transformées?; dos blancs?; étui carton beige, avec photocopie de la carte titre collée. (Rousseurs ici et là, sinon bon état). HAUT. 89?mm - LARG. 60?mm Ce jeu transformé signé A.G.H. peut être attribué avec certitude à Armand-Gustave Houbigant, auteur-éditeur dÂ’un jeu de cartes à figures historiques bien connu. Un ensemble de dessins originaux, conservés dans la Collection Hennin, au Cabinet des estampes de la Bibliothèque Nationale de France, confirme cette attribution?; on y apprend en outre que la plupart des dessins ont été faits par Hippolyte Bellangé (1800-1866). Houbigant rend compte avec humour de la vogue des cartes transformées ou ""cartes à rire"" à Paris, sous la Restauration?: ""À la fureur des Albums qui étaient tous remplis, succéda dans le monde celle des sujets dessinés sur des cartes prises au hasard. LÂ’on ne voyait plus un homme soupçonné de savoir tenir un crayon, sans quÂ’aussitôt lÂ’on lui apportât une douzaine de cartes à remplir. Comme un autre, je fus quelquefois choisi pour victime. Obligé de crayonner, je me rappelai quelques-unes de ces têtes qui tous [sic] les jours de toutes les années peuplent les lieux publics. Ces caricatures [sic] eurent quelques succès, ce sont elles que jÂ’ai rassemblées [sic]?; et que jÂ’offre aujourdÂ’hui au public"".

Le meuble ouvrant à deux portes et onze tiroirs, est orné de motifs de personnages, objets mobiliers et compositions florales en stéatite polychrome. Chine, vers 1850, fin de la période Daoguang. CONDITION REPORT: Distressed item. Boards detached, lacks spine. Frontis detached but present. Variable foxing throughout but text block generally quite clean and very tight. Well worth restoration.
