A George II mahogany and brass mounted tea caddy, in the manner of Landall & Gordon, each surface with four mitred veneers and ebony banding with moulded brass edges, the hinged cover with a swing handle and floret engraved plates, the interior with three vacant compartments, the front and sides with a chased leaf and central shell apron on hairy fetlock paw feet, 7.25in (18.5cm) h, 11in (28cm) w, 6.5in (16.5cm) d. Back right foot replaced, one piece of ebony banding to cover replaced, minor restoration. Thomas Landall (1724-c.1756) cabinet maker and upholder is recorded at Little Argyle Street, Westminster, London around 1740-45 when he formed a partnership with John Gordon. A trade card from 1747 features an inlaid tea chest of bombe form. Other tea chests are recorded see Christopher Gilbert & Tessa Murdoch, John Channon and brass inlaid furniture 1730-1760, 1993, figs. 162 & 163. A tea chest with almost identical mounts was sold at Sotheby's New York, 18th October 2006 'Important English Furniture, Ceramics and Silver from the Collection of Mr & Mrs Martin Gersh' Lot 28, for $42,000 (premium inclusive.)
A William IV carved rosewood library armchair by John Wilkie, London, with a leather upholstered back, arm rests and seat cushion, the seat with patent tin plate and spring slat supports stamped 'Wilkie Patent', the scroll and leaf carved arms to floret headed lappet tapering legs to brass caps stamped 'Cope and Collinson Patent' and brass castors. John Wilkie was a cabinet maker and chairmaker working between (1817-1840). In 1820 he was in partnership with William Cochran at 20 Nassau St., Middlesex Hospital. A large mahogany twin pedestal partner's desk, the rectangular moulded edge top inset with green tooled leather above three drawers to each pedestal, with panelled cupboard doors to the reverse enclosing three drawers, on a plinth base to castors, the base inscribed in pen 'Supplied by F. Keevil & Sons, Cabinet Makers, Bath', early 19th century and later, 30.25in (76.4cm) h, 86in (218.6cm) w, 48.5in (123.3cm) d. Splits to sides, handles later, one castor missing, some replaced.
An early 19th century mahogany draughtman's cabinet, the moulded edge hinged top with a baize lined surface resting on hinged lopers, to a further baize lined hinged top revealing partitions and ink and pen partitions, the front with a false frieze drawer above a real drawer teak lined previously with divisions, above a pair of rectangular panel cupboard doors enclosing two slides (one missing), all locks replaced with Victorian brass locks, later brass knob handles on turned legs with later brass paw sabots, 32.25in (81.5cm) h, 26.25in (66.5cm) w, 14.75in (37.5cm) d. Repair to left front around loper and drawer.
