William Butterfield's drawing table, the George III mahogany chest with an adjustable drawing slope on brass ratcheted supports, over two panelled doors with Bramah locks enclosing six folio slides, on moulded outswept bracket feet, with ebony moulding to the front of the cabinet, 115cm wide 73cm deep 92cm high Provenance: The Clive and Jane Wainwright Collection; purchased from Christopher Gibbs in 1981. William Butterfield (1814-1900) was a British Gothic Revival architect associated with the Oxford Movement. He designed many churches and, most notably, Keeble College, Oxford, in his signature polychromatic style. Condition ReportHinges to both top sections have been unscrewed. One lock missing. The back left castor missing. Some ebony trim missing. Wear and tear. With scratches to the front doors. The extending surfaces to either side missing a handle. The right surface appears stuck.
