Lepidoptera. A mid 20th century mahogany specimen cabinet containing approximately 500 butterfly and moth specimens of Western Siam, collected by W.S. Mitchell, 15 graduated drawers with pin-mounted specimens, quite a few specimens now perished or partially disintegrated, many with typed captions, including Burmese Lascar, Blue Pansy, Common Sailor, Chocolate Albatross, Lemon Migrant, Great Orange Tip, Common Mormon, Common Rose, Great Mormon, Five-Bar Swordtale, Archduke, Striped Blue Crow, Malay Lacewing, Black-Veined Tiger, Blue Glassy Tiger, Common Birdwing etc, enclosed by single glazed door, height 115.5 cm x width 68 cm x depth 49.5 cmQty: (1)Footnote: Provenance: Collection of William Scudamore Mitchell (1912-1987), advertising manager at Shell prior to the Second World War. During the war, Mitchell was sent to Singapore where he was interned by the Japanese, as a prisoner-of-war on the Burma Railway. His account of the experience was published in 1996: The Setting Sun, An Account of Life in Captivity under the Japanese. William Mitchell's typescript note in the first drawer: "I caught these butterflies in various camps in Western Siam between 1942 and 1945, when I was a prisoner of war with the Japanese. I brought them back in folds of paper, preserved with some napthalene balls, which I bought in Nan Pong. I took them to Watkins and Doncaster to be relaxed and set in 1946".
Three mid-century teak cabinets, comprising a floorstanding two-door cabinet, with adjustable internal divide to plinth base, 51 x 84 x 53cm, a similar two-door wall-mounted example with shallow internal shelf, 41 x 91.5 x 41cm and a matching wall-mounted set of three drawers, 41 x 91.5 x 41cm (af) (3). CONDITION REPORT The floorstanding unit is overall ok condition, showing signs of wear including minor scuffs, scrapes, fading, etc commensurate with use. The three-drawer chest has staining around the centre of the top drawer, probably just from use and the bottom drawer front is slightly warped. Further minor scuffs, scrapes, staining, fading, etc throughout. The two-door wall-mounted unit has a water mark to the top, some notable scratches to the left hand side of the left hand doors. Further light scratches to the same panel, with fading/staining to the left hand side.
A modern fruitwood (possibly cherry) cocktail cabinet in the Art Deco style, the dome top with angular handles to the doors, which reveal a circle and semicircle mirrored back, two glass shelves and mirrored bottom, flanked by two marble outswept counter sides, marble centred trim to the two-door cabinet base, 182 x 120 x 35cm. CONDITION REPORT Please note that this item should not be moved by lifting the outswept marble countertop, as this will result in damage to the countertop.
A modern oak bespoke made chest of two short over two long drawers, with large turned circular handles, back rail, on stepped base, 82 x 91 x 52cm. CONDITION REPORT The height of 82cm is to the top of the back rail. Handmade for the vendor by a Lake District cabinet maker, using locally sourced wood.
An early 20th century oak shop display/haberdashery cabinet with three banks of four shelved compartments, with glazed double doors to the front and turned brass finials, resting on three banks of two short over one long drawer base, 172 x 233 x 37cm.Provenance: This was formerly in Towers of Rochdale gun and sporting goods shop. CONDITION REPORT This has possibly been cut down a little to fit in the later premises. There are areas which have been repaired and areas which need repair. This piece has been stored in a barn for many years. All the glazed front doors are intact, with no broken glass.
An early 20th century oak two-door display cabinet, with central blind fret carved panel flanked by pair of leaded glazed doors, raised on bun feet, 123.5 x 122 x 30cm. CONDITION REPORT Overall good condition, showing only light signs of use throughout. The right hand door is missing its brass lock surround and we do not have any keys for this cabinet, although both doors are unlocked.

Four cabinet cups and saucers, and a lidded cannister, to include a pair of Wedgwood cups and saucers with Oriental seaweed and vase type designs and red script to bases, a French porcelain floral cup and saucer bearing Sevres type mark, and an Italian relief moulded cabinet cup and saucer marked underglaze blue crown N for Napoli. Together with a Continental porcelain straight sided cannister with pointed cover, painted with cottage in a landscape and with gilded decoration. (9)(B.P. 21% + VAT) Consigned from a large home counties of England estate collection. The cannister is badly chipped and cracked. The Napoli cup and saucer has bad rim chip. Saucer is also chipped. French cup and saucer appears good, no obvious damage. Two Wedgwood cups and saucers have some wear but no obvious damage.
