A colonial teak campaign writing/stationary cabinet, late 19th century, the tambour top section operated by the lower drawer and with fold-out slope and fitted interior, width 46.5cm.Provenance:Michael Trethewey. A Gentleman of Taste.We are delighted to be selling in this sale and over forthcoming sales, items from the estate of the collector Michael Trethewey. Michael had an unerring eye for quality. He was a frequent visitor to these auction rooms, an elegantly dressed, unassuming man who bought well and had a singular passion for old-school antiques.
15 assorted, mostly men's rings, in a variety of materials including titanium, steel & silver. These items were in a cabinet which appears to have been damp, hence some of the display paper now being stuck to the rings. All the rings need a clean & none have any price stickersThis is the third & final sale of stock from a jewellery retailer In Administration. This particular sale primarily comprises wedding & engagement rings (including mens), earrings, necklaces, bracelets, pendants & cufflinks. Where we quote an RRP in the lot description, we are quoting a price found on a sticker attached to the item unless we state otherwise. Where we make reference to an item being gold, platinum, diamonds, etc., that means there is a sticker on the item in question stating same. If we use the expression "Believed to be diamond, gold, etc. ...", that means there is no such label. Many of the items have hallmarks but some do not. A cased set of four late 19th century Trinidad finely carved and pierced wooden ornamental spoons, with diamond shaped handles, roundels and aviette shaped bowl, with a shell style plaque inscribed Trinidad B.W.I and indistinct letters and numbers, 17cm x 60cm x 27cmCondition: see photos, two spoons have some damage, each has glue residue possibly from when they were made, one bowl and other parts have been glued, the glass cabinet, each end panel is damaged, some loss of paper joins
A 19th century and later oak sideboard, the sideboard back with stepped pediment over three panelled carved floral back, with four brackets, lion head finials over shelf, on two-door cabinet base with carved geometric panelled doors, a marriage of two pieces of furniture and not one unit, height 190cm, pelmet at top 96cm. CONDITION REPORT It has been screwed together in places, some wear marks to the polish. The base is a little bit rickety.
A 19th century mahogany break-front chiffonier bookcase, the top comprising a pair of glazed doors enclosing three adjustable shelves and flanked by simple carved detail above a base of one long drawer and two panelled doors, raised on plinth base, approx 200 x 104 x 41cm. CONDITION REPORT Overall solid but used condition, the internal shelves are scratched and stained. There is light surface wear to the break front with a small area of slightly deeper scratches to the left hand side. The base section has scuff marks from the doors on the plinth base and further wear to the corners of the plinth and the corners of the upright section of the base cabinet, all commensurate with age and use.
A small French-style three-bottle gilt decorated tabletop decanter set, two front opening doors locked by the lid, with blind fret decorated front, top and sides, the miniature cabinet 12 x 15 x 9cm, height of decanter 7.5cm. CONDITION REPORT Repair to one of the front doors, which has been glued. There are a lot of areas of the blind fret decoration missing or loose.
MEISSEN; a late 19th/early 20th century cabinet cup and saucer, cobalt blue ground with sprays of floral hand painted decoration and gilt-heightened, crossed sword marks to the base of both cup and saucer and a late 19th/early 20th century chocolate cup, turquoise ground with vignette of hand painted flora and gilt-heightened with blue mark to the base, possibly for Sèvres (2). CONDITION REPORT Light rubbing to detail in places, inclusions from manufacture in the glaze, some slight rubbing to gilt especially to foot rims, light general wear
