Stephen Thomas Ward (1912-1963), Portrait of a lady, signed and dated 1952, pastel, 50 x 34cm.; 19.75 x 13.5in. * Stephen Ward was one of the central figures in the 1963 Profumo affair which rocked the Conservative Party. Ward invited the married British cabinet minister and MP John Profumo to a party and introduced him to a showgirl named Christine Keeler. Profumo's subsequent sexual relationship with Keeler and his false statements to the House of Commons regarding its nature led to Profumo's resignation. As a portrait artist, he had members of the Royal Family and politicians sit for him, including Prince Philip, The Duke and Duchess of Kent and Lord Snowdon.
Three Meissen porcelain pierced cabinet plates, late 19th Century, painted with titled scenes after Angelica Kauffmann, comprising 'Die Tauben', 'Tod der Clorinda' and 'Die Harmonie' within a cobalt blue ground overlaid with elaborate gilt stylized flowers and geometric banding beneath an oblong pierced rim and shaped gilt edge, crossed swords in underglaze blue and script titles in black to bases with impressed numerals, diameter approx 24cm.

A LATE VICTORIAN SATIN WOOD BUREAU CABINET with swan neck pediment, astragal glazed doors enclosing three adjustable shelves and above a cylinder desk with a variety of drawers around a central knee hole, standing on square tapering legs with splayed feet, painted overall with ribbon tied floral swags, fruit with classical motifs, 36 1/2" wide x 91" high (see illustration).
A LATE 19TH CENTURY CONTINENTAL MAHOGANY ART NOUVEAU MAHOGANY DISPLAY CABINET with stylised inlaid sunflower crest above a mirror backed shelf and two lead light glazed cabinet doors decorated with flowers and flanked by further thin cabinet doors decorated with sunflowers, standing on delicate square legs, united by an under tier and on square stepped feet, 54" wide x 84" high (see illustration).
