Group of portraits of Tsars Alexander II, Nicholas II and family, ca.1860-1900. 49 albumen prints on original carte-de-visite and cabinet card mounts, most with studio imprints and stamps on the mount or on the verso. Various sizes from 10 x 6 cm. (4 x 2 3/8 in.) to 16 x 10 cm. (6 1/4 x 4 in.). An archive of photographic studio portraits of the Royal Family, these photographs were issued commercially by a number of studio photographers across Europe and Russia including Linde in Berlin, W. & D. Downey in Newcastle (photographers to the English Royal family), Reuthlinger in Paris and Pasetti in St. Petersburg. Including 16 portraits of Tsar Alexandre II, 7 portraits of Nicholas II, images of both Tsaritsas Marie Alexandrovna and Nicholas II’s wife Alexandra (the last empress of Russia) and other photographs in various formats including a news file photo of Nicholas II on the day of his abdication, an albumen print of a troop of Cossacks, Alexander with staff officers and Nicholas II reviewing soldiers during the Sino-Japanese War.
