A pair of Regency mahogany, burr yew and ebony marquetry bookcases, in the manner of Marsh and Tatham, circa 1815, each with a raised superstructure incorporating two cupboards centered by a mirror, above a black marble top and three open shelves united by X-shaped supports, marquetry decorated frieze and uprights, 107cm high, 87cm wide, 45cm deep. Provenance: The Estate of the late Lady Anne Cowdray. The overall design of the cabinets, together with the design of mounts relates closely to a rosewood cabinet made in 1806 by Marsh and Tatham exists in the Royal Collection (Regency Room, Buckingham Palace). The overall design of the cabinets, together with the design of mounts see Regency Furniture, 1795-1820, Margaret Jourdain, (Country Life Ltd 1948) figure 11, page 64 and page 2 for a brief discussion of the cabinets made by the firm in the Regency room. A larger cabinet also supplied to Carlton House by Marsh and Tatham in 1806 similarly demonstrates many closely relating design and decorative elements to the pair now being offered.
