A Danish rosewood desk, by Ole Wanscher, and made by cabinet maker AJ Iverson, the plain rectangular top with a quarter width slide and drawer, on square legs with brass caps, 125cm wide 70cm deep 74cm high Ole Wanscher was the second professor at the Copenhagen Academy of Fine Arts, (between Klare Klint and Poul Kjerholm) and, like Klint, his work draws on 18th century English cabinet making. The tradition of handcrafted furniture was protected in Denmark until the 1960s by a punitive tax levied on imported mass produced furniture.
