Mariette II (Pierre, 1634-1716), Publishers. Livre de diverses Paisages, Mis en Lumiere par Pierre Mariette, Gravé par Perelle, title page and 177 plates, from 28 individual suites, by Gabriel Perelle (1603-77), Nicolas (b.1631), and Adam (1638-1695), predominantly landscapes but includes a set of the 12 months of the year, a set of six illustrating fountains of Fontainebleau and The Château de Saint-Cloud, four illustrating the seasons, numerous Mediterranean harbour views and maritime scenes, and many others, etchings, on laid paper, various watermarks throughout, probably mid to late 17th century, each leaf c. 185 x 305 mm. (7 1/4 x 12 in), one plate with a large tear into image, otherwise occasional surface dirt, spotting and browning, later marbled boards, oblong 4to, [circa 1650-1700] Provenance: Neatham Mill Library, no. 228 (blind stamp on endpaper) ⁂ The Bibliotheca Albertina, Universitätsbibliothek Leipzig, hold another copy with the same title page (without plate count), and in the 'Catalogue des livres rares et singuliers du cabinet de feu M. l'Abbé Aubry', 1785, no. 406 describes another copy that contains 176 prints. Nevertheless, it is probable that like the topographical views of France that the Perelle family engraved and published as collections in oblong albums, the present work will not necessarily have another comparative album with exact like-for-like works.
