A RARE ARTS AND CRAFTS OAK BUREAU BY HEAL & SON, MODEL NUMBER 303, C1898-1908/9, WITH OXIDISED WROUGHT METAL SEED POD HINGES, HEART SHAPED ESCUTCHEON AND RING HANDLES, ON AFFIXED STAND AND BALUSTER LEGS UNITED BY STRETCHERS, 122CM H; 45 X 84CM, DRAWER STAMPED HEAL & SON LONDON, MAKER'S OVAL EMBOSSED TRADE LABEL TO BACKPrior to 1898, Heal & Son specialised in beds and bedroom furniture. In that year the firm set up a cabinet factory. Two bureaux, numbers 303 and 304, one on a stand, the other featuring a cupboard base were amongst the first designs to be produced at the new factory. Both feature the same distinctive, long art metal strap hinges.Factory records show production of both designs was limited to the low 20s before being dropped in 1908/9.
