Cork's First Residential Electrical InstallationAn unique early Electrical Unit, installed at Brookfield House, Cork, now part of University College Cork, on behalf of the Jennings Family when the house became the first residence in Cork City to have electricity. It was installed by Porter Sykes & Co., Electrical Engineers, Cork & Dublin . The brass and copper unit now fitted in an Edwardian carved walnut cabinet and wall mounted. It was later purchased by the Coomber family and removed to Ardmanagh, Monkstown, Co. Cork. It still remains intact with the Amp & Volt meters, levers etc and measures approx. height 42" (107cms) x width 28 1/2" (72cms) x depth 11" (28cms). (1)* An unique Relic.
A very good quality Irish Regency mahogany two door Cabinet, probably by Gillington, stamped 'No. 55246', the rectangular moulded top on a frieze decorated with carved rosettes, and two carved corbels, and with two doors each inset with green trellis design cloth, on a plinth base, 92cms (36") high, 76cms (30") wide. An extremely attractive Edwardian satinwood Cabinet, the upper section of inverted breakfront outline profusely decorated in the Neo-Classical style with colourful flowers around a recessed mirror and serpentine shaped shelf, flanked with a glazed display compartment to either side on a bow fronted base, the centre glazed compartment with shelf and a decorated panel door to either side, each decorated with a female portrait inside an arrangement of leaf and floral swags and garlands, all raised on short square tapering legs, 82"h x 55"w (208cms x 140cms).
