An Edwardian carved solid oak tall corner cabinet, bearing trade plaque for Simpson & Sons, Halifax The carved and moulded cornice above foliate carved frieze and leaded light paneled stained glass cupboard door, flanked on either side by foliate carved panels, with open recess beneath above the deep frieze drawer, applied with oversized cast brass drop ring handle, and a carved and fielded panelled cupboard door beneath, flanked on either side by carved and fielded panels, raised on four turned bun feet, width approx 86cm.
A good quality Edwardian marquetry inlaid rosewood music cabinet The low gallery back above bevelled mirrored paneled door enclosing two shelves, above an open recess fitted with shelves and partitions, raised on square tapered supports, width approx 57cm. CONDITION REPORT: Lot 877 - back panel slightly loose, but generally good condition.
A Japanese Shibayama cabinet, Meiji period (1868-1912) Of conventional form, the scroll supports extending to an over hanging pediment, the central body with twin drawers and two hinged doors revealing an arrangement of drawers and cupboards, surmounted by two sliding doors and over hanging tops, elaborately decorated in gold hiramakie and inlaid in ivory and mother of pearl depicting scenes of precious vases brimming with flowers and censors surmounted by carved ivory shishi, the upper sliding drawers further detailed with precious antiques and bird designs reserved against a black lacquered and dusted gilt ground, further embellished in gilt with scrolling foliate rosettes and meandering tendrils, the sides further applied with fan shaped panels beautifully painted with carp and skeleton designs, the metal work hinges and bound corners further detailed with ruyi open lotus and further floral embellishments, 158cm high, 102cm wide, 44cm deep. (illustrated) CONDITION REPORT: Lot 163: small losses to ivory on the right sliding door - holes in the very top of cabinet indicating it is lacking top -loss to the lacquer at the upper horizontal corner - small losses to the wood and lacquer at the corners of each door, also noticeable at vertical edges -large losses to ivory shishi on left door -large losses to ivory on right door panel -large losses to the wood at lower horizontal member -small splits to lower -small areas of loss to gilt throughout
A collection of autographs to include Orville Wright Comprising a photograph of the first successful flight of a man lifting aeroplane with inked in inscription 'to Gerard Heppelthwaite my first flight Orville Wright', further autographs to include C P Scott, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle dated 1935, Margaret Bondfield (The First Woman Cabinet Minister), Viscountess Aster (Nancy Aster), George Formby, further packets of autographs to include political figures, Art & Science, actors and musicians, literary, book entitled 'The Century Encyclopedia of Names', published by The Times 1903. CONDITION REPORT: Lot 313: The photo is in an album dated 1943, it is dedicated to the owner (see images) the vendor is a relation to the original owner. There is also a letter from Orville Wright. There are other good autographs in the album to include Uncle Mac, Lord Donegall, Paddy Naismith, Dr Malcolm Sargent, Sir Alliott Verdon-Roe, Lord Brabamon, together with a great deal more too numerous to name. Letter signed by secretary.
