A Japanese Shibayama cabinet, Meiji period (1868-1912) Of conventional form, the scroll supports extending to an over hanging pediment, the central body with twin drawers and two hinged doors revealing an arrangement of drawers and cupboards, surmounted by two sliding doors and over hanging tops, elaborately decorated in gold hiramakie and inlaid in ivory and mother of pearl depicting scenes of precious vases brimming with flowers and censors surmounted by carved ivory shishi, the upper sliding drawers further detailed with precious antiques and bird designs reserved against a black lacquered and dusted gilt ground, further embellished in gilt with scrolling foliate rosettes and meandering tendrils, the sides further applied with fan shaped panels beautifully painted with carp and skeleton designs, the metal work hinges and bound corners further detailed with ruyi open lotus and further floral embellishments, 158cm high, 102cm wide, 44cm deep. (illustrated) CONDITION REPORT: Lot 163: small losses to ivory on the right sliding door - holes in the very top of cabinet indicating it is lacking top -loss to the lacquer at the upper horizontal corner - small losses to the wood and lacquer at the corners of each door, also noticeable at vertical edges -large losses to ivory shishi on left door -large losses to ivory on right door panel -large losses to the wood at lower horizontal member -small splits to lower -small areas of loss to gilt throughout

CONDITION REPORT: Lot 313: The photo is in an album dated 1943, it is dedicated to the owner (see images) the vendor is a relation to the original owner. There is also a letter from Orville Wright. There are other good autographs in the album to include Uncle Mac, Lord Donegall, Paddy Naismith, Dr Malcolm Sargent, Sir Alliott Verdon-Roe, Lord Brabamon, together with a great deal more too numerous to name. Letter signed by secretary.
