A painted music/work table, by Edward & Roberts, London, the hinged cover painted with a reclining lady, opening to reveal a group of musical instruments, dummy drawer over a drawer, manufacturers label and stamped makers mark, 44 x 35 x 73 cm. Founded in 1845, Edwards and Roberts became synonymous with high quality furniture, both as cabinet makers, producing items to a very high standard using the finest timbers, and as 'Importers of Ancient Furniture'. By the late 19th century Edwards & Roberts was one of the leading firms of English cabinetmakers.
An Edwardian mahogany musical cabinet, by Henry Stone and Son, Banbury, composed of six fall front drawers over an open shelf, brass castors, 51 x 38 x 79 cm. Founded by Henry Stone, a Banbury bookseller, who in 1871 started to manufacture a patent letter-filing box invented by his brother-in-law, John Cash of Coventry; it closed in 2018.
